Thanks guys for all your input. I learned some new things. I decided to use the dedicated amp though it will add the the cost of the system but I figure I'll be happy in the long run.

@JohnVroom - I just googled CD5030 and it says that it is 25 watts RMS x 4.

I googled "holocaust did not happen" and found this

EVERYTHING ON THE INTERWEB IS TRUE!

From Eclipse website, they rated the deck 4x50w MAX (peak to peak) then you need to divide by 2 to get the peak value (4x25) and then multiply by 0.7 to get the RMS. So 4x17.5w RMS is the real output, but like zoomer mentioned, at what voltage?

I find that any stereo system with a subwoofer amp of 150w RMS or more should coincide with a separate amplifier for the mids and highs. It's not a perfect science, but at that power, the bass can be very overpowering...

I run 280rms on each front door and never lose sight of my fronts while the bass is dropping... more power - more control - more more more gimme gimme

When it comes to headunit power don't even try to use math is my rule of thumb - those numbers are more the marketing departments decision in my opinion - not engineering.

Glad your going with the amp - you will be way happier.
