Alright guys, tomorrow i am going to place the order for the drivers. Unfortunately i am going with the vifa 6.5", It'll be a easier fit. The cone material worries me a bit though.

As far as the cross over situation goes... for now I am going to get the swiss passive 3-way. When i get the money for one of those processors you guys have listed, I will grab one and get my second amp in the equation. But for now, especially with it being near christmas and all... money is too tight.

As far as that solen website goes... I pretty much gave up trying to find drivers on it. It's a combination of my internet being slow and solen not listing the info up front that has turned me off. Takes me a minute just to see how many ohms a driver is.

Also today i realized that my p3 sub is wired up at 2ohms and my pdx 5 can't support it when it's bridged... so fortunately Crutchfield is taking it back. already made the return arrangements. Now i am thinking of getting this sub to replace it:

Dayton RSS315HO-4 12" Reference HO Subwoofer 4 Ohm | Parts-Express.com

Strangly it look identical to my jbl studio monitor sub... here's a pic:

Well guys, all i can say now is that you have all been so helpful. It's really nice to have a board of advisors at your side.
So Thank you VERY MUCH for your time and patience!
I will Post pics and all the details about my install when i get it finished. This thread will not go cold until my car is full of sound.

Cheers, Rod

If you would consider something used the XM5e went for $35 a while ago in the classified section of this forum. If you already have the amps, active could be cheaper than passive...

That's true and that sub looks nice . Let us know how painful the duty and brokerage was from parts-express.

Well when i placed the order, it gave me the option of paying the brokerage with the shipping... both came to $95... i have ordered lots of stuff from the states... so i would say based the invoice, i am looking at somewhere between 150-175 for duty . wow makes you think twice eh. And yea, i jumped ship and ordered the stuff about 20 mins ago.

Lanzar VIBE X5 3-Way Electronic Crossover...

I could use the first channel high pass at 5k for the tweeter... low pass at 5k the mids and high pass them at 180... low pass at 180 to the low woofer... and then use the 4th full range channel to go to the sub...

Does that sound like a better setup than using the swiss crossover?

That thing would allow me to use my other amp and have better crossovers... but no freedom to play... so i think i will just save up

well i changed my order and ended up going with the Lanzar 3way. So I am going active with the pair of 5-channel amps. I must say something feels wrong, buying a $100 6.5" driver to handle only 80hz-180hz. But when I get a processor with dsp, time delay setting and more crossover possibilities I will be rolling.

I think you're going to be happy with this setup. That crossover will do the trick for now and in the car's cabin the woofer's range will go much lower than 80Hz. Of course you will have the Dayton sub too so the low end will definitely not be a problem. You should consider setting the mid-tweeter crossover frequency to 3.5k. The Dayton tweeter can play even lower, the mid is already starting to fade at 5k and it's basically over at 6k (which is still inside the crossover region). Either way the fun is in experimenting. Good luck Rod, have fun and keep us posted
