Yeah. the lighter the cone...the quicker it can get to point a from point be and back again. with a light cone you can make a complete sound wave with less power. And thus also making a lighter cone have the ability to play a broader range of frequencies with less effort. I think anyway??

Thats good that i have been corrected about the 8 being able to play low. i will have to try out some different models rather than basing my assumption on one occasion. Thanks [img]smile.gif[/img]

Wow, thanks for the lowdown boys... after all this I think I'm gonna go with a sealed 12.

I also did some searching on the net and there are some impressive 8 setups, but it looks like you really have to know what you're doing to get them to be competitive with the bigger cones power-wise.

So as usual, I'll take the easy way out.

Actually, to correct myself... Increasing mass lowers the resonant frequency of the speaker, so it does affect the lower end of the FR. As to the question of speed - technically, when a woofer is playing lower frequencies, the cone is moving faster. Higher frequencies, the cone moves slower.
