Question 96 impala ss components setup

I wanted to do an upgrade to my sound system using stock locations. i was looking towards a 3-way component system with the midrange in the front doors(4x6 location), tweeters in front A-pillar(not stock), and midbass on the rear deck(6x9 location). and also subs in the trunk. would this setup sound good in a large vehicle like this. if not could someone tell me a better setup. or if so what brand should i go with ($1000 limit), appreciate any help with this.

im a say im no guru and will never be one... yo' do what your planin with this, 96 impalla, and carry on-
do you want to compete?
do you like da bass?yah?
there are gonna be a few other options for a decent systm.

when my alpines in the hondas was good for me, i had my truck outfitted accordingly... your gonna buy what you need or what you want. id get alpines or some alienxRcFw220, either your gonna decide from others opinions, personal, or price thou im not a guru. try them alpines...
btw , to those that know, are alpines 3 way? if not op, disregard half of what was said then evaluate.

one idea:
3 way (bass, mid, tweet) upfront, bass in doors, mid/tweet in the A pillars or kick panels. a few brands to check out in 3 different price ranges....Morel elate, Eclipse 3 way components or the new JBL 3 way comps

6x9's in the rear...component style or 2 ways are more than enough for rear fill and to get louder if you want to crank it

subwoofer system in the trunk

You can use the passives that come with the speakers and just give them a lot of juice or think about going active with a separate amp channel for each speaker.

another idea:

2 way comps in front in oem locations, 2x8" bass drivers in the rear for impact (sounds great but your imaging will be pulled back (if that's important to you?), and your sub system.

....or a million other combinations and ideas.

I like the idea of mid and tweets in Apillar but its gonna be some work trying to fit the 3" mid in there plus i want it to be sort of stealth setup. I like jbl will have to look into those. Never heard what morel sounds like but ive been hearing alot about them. 2way sounds good too. What if i did 2way infront and in rear. Those jbl 660gti's look nice. Active also sounds like a great idea too seeing i like to tweak the music to my liking. Thanks for your ideas, got more researchin to do. Whats a good active xover for 3way

I'm running 2 - 6 1/2" Eclipse component sets in each door. They are in sealed enclosures. 200w (rms) is being fed to each door. They get quite loud and remain very clear at pretty high volume.

I am running the same 6 1/2" Eclipse components in the rear but they are getting 50w a side. They are mounted onto MDF and located generally in the same location as the stock rears.

I have added a centre channel into the dash to improve (in my opinion) the height of my stage.

Overall I'm very happy with this system. I'm running 3 - 10" forward firing Eclipse subs in a sealed box for bass as well.

If I was starting over, I would likely do the same arrangement for components, except that I would use JBL's GTi 6 1/2" components instead of the Eclipse ones I am running.

I would also consider running a couple of 12" subs in free-air mounted in the rear package tray. That is if you don't mind giving up a little bass. Lots of extra work doing the free-air setup properly, but that's what I would like to do next.

You can check out my cardomain page if you want to see any more info on the car. I've got a decent amount of experience with Impala's / Caprices, so feel free to ask any questions you have.

Hope that helps.

I just happen to as of this morning have a set of Morel 9" 3way components to sell off. We were working on a project vehicle with them and the customer has decided to hold off on the project, return the vehicle to stock and sell the vehicle. So now I have a set of speakers to liquidate. One woofer has a scuff mark on the bottom of it, the mids, tweeters and crossovers are still new. (all speakers have never seen power for that matter).

Morel Loudspeakers - Mobile Audio - 3 Way Component Systems - Elate

I also have the 3way Eclipse components on sale cheap as well.

ECLIPSE Component Series Speaker SC8355 | Fujitsu Ten

Do the work and get the speakers installed properly and your car is going to sound absolutely amazing.

nice setuo i like how you covered the component so u cant see them looks clean. thanx for the ideas and the pics. i also have a caprice ss which i just sold. check it out http://www.cardomain.com/ride/504702 This setup was bangin loud and clear. however with the ss i just want the music to be stealth. i like the factory look. i might just put 2 sets of 2way 6.5 comps in stock locations. i don't know if those 660's will fit in the doors though, mounting depth is over 3". anybody know if they'll fit. thanks again

Thanks. The JBL's that I like are actually only the C608gti MKII two way set.

JBL

I've installed 3 sets and really like the way they sound. At the moment they are my favourite sounding set.

........ Although, MR2NR has posted some really nice looking speakers. I'd love to try out those Morels in my little Pontiac !! Man, fitting a 9" speaker in a little G5s door would be a chore !! Love to hear what it sounded like though.

Being more realistic, the 3-way Eclipse set he posted would likely suit me better for my Pontiac. I wish I had heard a set of them before. With such small mids and tweeters, I could do kicks much easier then with the JBL's. Hmmm, something I might have to consider .....

Brad
