Advantages & Disadvantages of a Tube amplifier vs. a Solid State amplifier.

My first car, a 1989 Chev Cavalier Z24, has a Clarion source unit, Orion Cobolt amps, Focal Utopia front stage, Orion subwoofers, Orion DEQ30 equalizer, and an electronic Orion crossover, some Monster wiring, some Orion wiring, a red top Optima battery up front and a yellow top Optima battery in the trunk along with the amp rack and amps and subwoofers and the eq and the crossover.
The second car is a 1992 Toyota Corolla, and it is in this car that I will be going with the Audison VRX amps, Alpine F#1, all Monster wiring, Focal Utopia front stage and Focal Utopia subwoofer.

Chadxton- like your mother used to say "don’t do that your face could get stuck!"
I am a proud owner of a US Amps TU-4360. How does it sound? Awesome. Very neutral, great detail, pace and rhythm are there in spades, not tubey not transistory. I have not heard a better sounding amp (haven’t heard Audison, Milbert, Sinfoni, Brax, Tru, Linear Power though). I just bought a US Amps TU-600 and a 1000X to bump it up a notch. At their price point they really beat up their competition. The TU series might entice the not so deep pocketed to not purchase the cost no object stuff. The amp seems to pack a real punch too, very dynamic, without any soggy bass or shrill highs. WARNING: You will be bitten by the upgrade bug because now the interconnects, power supply wiring, and speakers will be the weak links in he audio chain. My car is sounding like a good home high end stereo.
DO change the stock 12AX7 tubes though it is a quiet tube but not a sonic gem. I recommend NOS 12AX7 or 5751.
RUMOR MILL- US Amps may be developing a TU 5 way amp, and a TU crossover/ line driver.
Not bad for a non-canuck company.

Speakers a weak link? Canton Pullman 8's, Oz 130's, and Seas 535 tweets? You think?
You have to see my car, man. Install is going to be the weak link.
Thanks for the feedback, though. Quite appreciated.

CHADXTON- no way am I belittling your components! Ya got good stuff. My point was simply that in this egocentric, neurotic thing we call car audio we always want more, every 'fix' identifies another shortcoming and hearing a great car or home system begs the question "why can’t my system sound better?" I think a few products when you plug them into the system are ‘state of the art’ and are not the weak link.
As Cory Greenburg said on eBay
"I'm cleaning out my cable closet and making room for new stuff, which will probably also wind up on eBay down the road for much less than I paid for it. But that's what makes this country great -- taking advantage of other people's cyclical self-destructive behavior, all in the name of better sounding audio for pennies on the dollar." I think he was referring to Canada too.
As for the price of my system I did a lot of homework and a lot of eBaying and Canadian sales forums etc.(nothing better than high-end sound at low end prices).
Pictures of my system... sorry it is currently a train wreck of electronics and wires.
Back to the topic-tubes vs. transistors the reliability bug is the tube amps historic weakness (and the inability of all tube systems to drive insanely low impedances is part of that).
