Personally I just want my bass to be hard and crisp. I listen to techno so I need the other sounds or frequencies to be also audible. I was actually browsing through some the presets you know like powerful and maximum base and stuff on my f900bt and I found out that the powerful setting seemed to give me crisp hard hitting base and over all good sound quality so I thought to my self maybe I can improve on that, dont want to bother other pple cause I like DIYs and thought I should get a bit of knowledge before making my own custom settings.

Keep in mind that an Equalizer is in essence a "volume control for certain frequencies". As you adjust one frequency, the adjacent frequencies are also affected in volume level.
As you raise the head unit volume (master volume control) it will increase the level along with the increased/decreased levels you set on the equalizer. If not set properly you may risk damaging your speakers from overload.
You may also note a decrease in openness of sound-stage, but increased levels, as most eq.'s narrow the bandwidth (if there's a bypass switch you can use it to check this effect.)

In most cases, I reduce the 1kHz. (mid-range)control by a couple of notches, bring the low bass (60Hz)up a tad, and the tweeter (10kHz) up(in my case) .
