I can take a moment and shed some light on dash-mounted midrange drivers. Yup, the image placement is great from one seat only, that's the BIG drawback. Placement is terrible from the other seat. But tonality and staging can't be beat, for either seat, nor can image definition, which is usually good from both seats.

The Project 240 employs a Hybrid Audio 3" and tweeter up high on the pillars. At the IASCA Finals, the car scored very well in staging and tonality, but for some reason, got 6's and 7's in imaging, including far left and far right, if memory serves, right at the speakers. I know what the car's weakness is, position to soundstage, which it scored a 13 out of 15, so I was surprised to see these results. For reference, at the NOPI Nationals, just four weeks before, the car scored perfect 10's in imaging from international training judge Chris Orblom. But you know what, it's all still cool with me, because you can't achieve 100% success in sound quality competition. You're good if you can achieve 98%. We had an awesome judge---it's just a subjective sport. It was a fun learning experience with a "one seat wonder", and in the meanwhile, we were able to test our wide-bandwidth 3" Legatia drivers. Without this car being our test mule, we would have been quite in the dark on how to make improvements to our 3" design.

FWIW, I use the 240 to listen specifically for imaging, before tuning other cars. While it's not my reference, it's a real good start. And from the driver's seat, it is far better than the Altima system, which incidentally had the highest street-division SQ score of the IASCA Finals event. We'll have this car at CES. Please come by and ask to hear the "janitor track." (John Vrooman knows the track because he gave me the CD!) It's spooky how accurate this car is, esp. on this track. You have to open your eyes to be sure the janitor isn't about to walk up and step on you. You'd have to hear it to know what I am talking about.

The car's been retired now (it was a short career for this car!), and now we're about to debut our new project at CES! This car will be in the Genesis booth.

And one last thing I will leave the original poster with: remember to not only tune time domain but amplitude domain. This was one of our biggest "lessons learned."

Actually, I have been working with Peter Lufrano for a few years now. First as a Brax and Helix dealer, and now as I have two cars representing Genesis in the lanes! I have been quietly "with" Genesis for almost two years now...we've been building a car for going on three years now, and they commited to building the amplification for the vehicle almost two years ago! I was VERY happy when Peter came on board. It was a real good fit. And definetely a good guy.
