Best high end cd decks
#31
Is the CD5030 not considered high-end because it is only has 5volt pre-output? Because when I am messing with it, it has so many options to fine tune a system.
And why would someone need more voltage than 5volts anyhow? That's pretty damn clean and loud.

Couldn't agree more, Pioneer makes some of the nicest and best functioning decks on the market, although compared to home audio still lacking drastically. That being said.........$1200 for just the deck is not only rediculous in my humble opinion but borders on insanity. For a 1/3rd of the price you can do almost everything that deck can do with an 880 or 800.
Also, I have yet to see any single home audio piece that comes anywhere close to offering what something like the P99RS does and for sure no way you are going to get a high end source and preamp with those features for that money. Again, the P99RS, for what it all encompasses, is a deal.

No HU has ever offered more features than the DEH-P01, the level of build quality is Pioneers best ever.
Sure it is not cheap but it raises the bar over anything available in North America and it is similar to the price of the F#1 and McIntosh HU, the uber Denon's, and the DRX9255 that do not have EQ or DSP features, the DRZ9255 was only a little less and the Premier 880 is still over $700 and it was a mid level HU in pioneers lineup 3 years ago. The law of diminishing returns is an issue here as small improvements cost a lot of cash at this price point. And frankly the top car audio cars out there can compare to some of the finer home audio systems available, but they are few and far between.
I dont know but I bought a DEH-P01 without hesitation and I feel it was a smokin good deal even though I dont want to put it in a car just yet. My point of view is this, is there a HU available anywhere that can get me closer to the source? If there is I am unaware of it.
I think the "one that got away" for me was the Denon uber HU's they sound great

I loved the Z1 but the irratable cd transport with CDR's and lack of ipod was a selling factor for me

Manufacturer: Clarion

Typical Selling Price: £1,000.00 (Hypothetical @ present)
Clarion’s best unit. A very high end approach sees a copper chassis and no removable face. It uses a deterrent flashing LED so is not suited to UK inner-city parking environments. Sold in the USA as DRZ9225 and also in the eastern markets with the same FM steps and passband as the UK and called HX-D2. (THIS IS NOT UK PRODUCT*) The packaging is simple and the manual and installation diagram are kept in a Vinyl leatherette pochette with gold print on the front that says HX-D2. The manual is written in the simplest clearest fashion I have ever read and explains quite complex issues like the time alignment facility and the slope and Q of crossovers and equalisers with simple ease. The unit has a glossy high end look to the front drop and yet uses very few controls, even less than the button count on the neat remote control. You navigate the menus system by the six buttons normally used as radio presets or by the up-down etc keys on the remote. The display is not flashy but bright and easy to read.
It has four super-quality RCA outputs on very high quality cable and also features two audio auxiliary inputs. The main RCA outs can be set to be simple front/rear/sub out or else configured in a two-way front plus full range rear and sub or a full on four way actively crossed over system. The remote control is finished in brushed black anodised Aluminium. A separate DC-to-DC converter box connects to the electrical system of your car via good eight gauge cables – which are included fully ready terminated - and has a serious loom to connect the converter to the unit.

Pioneer Canada have established a criteria for being able to order the P-99's. Much like their Premier retailers, the upper end Pioneer product are only sold to a select few shops (3 in the Greater Vancouver Area).
The Vancouver Pioneer rep told me that they only ordered 6 P99's. 3 of the 6 will be in one local shop. The rest of Canada gets the other 3.
Suggested retail in Canada is $1400.00, retail in the States is $50.00 less.

I have always liked Pioneer's top end head units..my 980 is over 3 years old
and it's still in MINT condition..sounds better than any other head unit for the price
I already have my name in for a DEX-P99RS and should have it early April
