best subwoofer(s) for rock music question?

He likes rock music the FI 15" or just about any fifteen will not be the best choice for his music. If your on a budget 2 ten's (price and space especially in a sealed box) is probably your best choice. 12's are ok but they tend to be better for lower bass that's more related to rap and hip hop.

depends on the 10's and the power running them. If your using a sealed box your going to have to sacrifice output, generally around 3 db which equals one less sub or 2 subs on half the power. You usually can make a ported box sound tighter but they tend to get very large which defeats the purpose of the smaller sealed box(saving space)I've measure 2 mtx tc510's in a mtx ported thunder box in my car @ 140db on test tones(300rms each)so yes 10's can get very loud

but now with my sundown SAZ-1500D is comming soon I'll have a lot more power to play with.
Money on a used sub is a total crapshoot, especially for what is generally the most abused part of a stereo. Used subs are scary. Music does not care what sub it is played through. Good sound is more a function of the box. This fellow still wants it loud and is expecting good sound. The dual 12" DD2512 is a great option or even a single DD3512 would be ideal. It is worth saving up a little extra cake and go into a known good performing sub and then build up a couple of boxes to see how different they can sound.
