Let your fiancee listen to the system. She's the one who has to drive it. 300 watts is a decent amount of power... I used to run a Cerwin Vega 15d4 on 200 watts and it sounded great and got plenty loud.

She comes to the shop with me. We both need to hear a subwoofer being fed, less power. I'm sure she'd be satisfied with 300. Mine only gets 410W.

In the confines of a small car it is going to be more than enough power. Have you considered a 5channel amp at all? This also might be a superior way to go. I happen to have a used Memphis Belle in the store right now....

One really good budget sub is the Peerless XXLS. Less then $200 and will give you the volume you need.

I haven't considered a 5 channel amp, simply because we're going to run her rear speakers off the new deck. And my personal preference is to avoid used equipment, unless I know the previous owner.

Fozzz, I've never heard of Peerless. Wouldn't even know where to go to listen to one of their subs. But I would check it out. Though the $200 mark is a bit more than we intended to allot for the subwoofer.

You could still use the 5 channel amp if you bridge the four channels into two, and use fifth for a sub. This is a way better set-up, cause you will feed the fronts properly.

I say go by price. If a 4 channel is cheaper and you can run it with the rear channels bridged and put out good power to the fronts, then go for it. If a 5 channel is a better price then go for it.

Now you guys have gone and done it. lol

I was really impressed with how the HSK165's sounded with the 60W they were getting for the EP4.

The Audison SRx3 will put out 65W x 2 @ 4ohm and 380W x 1 @ 2 ohm, simultaneously.

I'm going to EHR tomorrow to see what this amp is worth. Perhaps I could get a 5 channel amp of another brand (for less than the Audison) and use as you've suggested to get more power to the fronts. The Hertz have a 125W RMS. Doesn't mean we have to feed them that much power.

Who makes a decent 5 channel amp for $500?

Well, I know you say you like to buy new, and I think preferebly locally, and you have a certain budget, but I cant think of any decent 5-channel amp at the time that fits your bill. Mind you I didnt really make a strong effort, but I really love this amp on Ebay from USA. Simply love it!!! BEAST!!! Limited Edition badge on it. Beauty!

If you want extra distortion, simply bridge a 4 channel amp to two. Or continue on the path that you are going. You are doing well.
I have used the Pioneer PRS anps in the past only to be truly impressed. The Audison will blow your mind, but will be considerably more expensive.
If you were to use a 5 channel amp, I would skip the passive x-over and run the mids and tweets off of the 4 channels for better control of the sound system.
The rear speakers aren't always necessary in an SQ set-up.

That Fosgate amp is junk. They used to have quality, but sold out a couple of years ago.
