A pillars worked nice for me, the width is not overly expansive but the sound quality makes up for it, come across very clear.

The Icon: Beautiful setup! You wouldn't happen to be in the GTA neighborhood would you?

Fozz: These are far from being done... and who knows what they're going to look like when they are finished! Keeping them tight is going to be another issue... I was going to bolt them at the joints but because these parts aren't super strong they may fracture. Not sure...

SUX 2BU: Stereolithography is not cheap. I was quoted $685 with a 20% discount at a local company for a pair of these. I ended up getting it done at school for $40. Didn't do a pair. That's the material charge. Took about 3 hours to print... quite worth while! The material is powdery, but when it's done, a hardener is infiltrated and the material actually becomes much stronger. It's difficult to sand but I believe it's quite brittle. There are other 3D printers that deal with production type plastics like PP, PE, or ABS which are much closer to actual commercial products. That would be ideal, but probably more costly.

Dukk: Yea, all the fanciness is lost after it's setup. It'll just look... fancy? hahaha. It would be a good tool to setup up imaging... there's just the question about what do you do after it's been setup... do you replace this unit with a solid structure? You've got me thinking...

Sassmaster: $40 for this one little piece. If I can get it printed in a wax material later on, I can probably find someone to have it casted in aluminum. Now that would be sweet! and waaaaaay more $$$$$$

I was wondering if anyone out there has much to add regarding placing the mid on the dash. The tweet, mid and midbass are going to be time aligned so PLD should be that much of an issue.

I've decided to go with a 3" dome mid because after calculating my prototypes for a 4" cone mid enclosure, I realized I would be paying a lot of money for a huge sphere that would just be a total eyesore on my dash. Think gallo accoustics on the dash, but twice its size.

Anyhow, the 3" mid is already enclosed so everything is going to be reduced overall size. Should I continue to directly aim these drivers? or rely on off-axis ability and/or windshield reflection?

The Icon: How did you come to the decision for your speaker placement? Did you actually test them in that location or just decided to put them there?

I had the tweeter in the a pillar before hand, I wanted to go 5.1 and the only thing that would fit nicely was the 4"( it plays down to 80 for me very nicely )
Mids work it from 50hz up to 80 on a 30 slope.

For SQ I drop off the rear and use the mid in the doors/ front stage for a nice 3way( I use this format 99% of the time I have rarely used the 5.1

I figured with the processing power of the PHX 700 I couldn’t lose. I wanted an in you face system that could show a little of what these speakers could do.. I often wonder if I will make my ears bleed some day.
