I hate to keep talking about Scott Buwalda's car,but even with it's rear mounted woofers, it had the most depth out of any of the cars I heard at IASCA finals in Memphis. Car audio is a funny thing. Certain things are supposed to work and others aren't. But that's not always how it is in the real world. For example take the 7 drum beats track that people use to determine width and spacing of the imaging. I have only listened to that track in about 15 cars ever. But the one I think it was best in was a little white S-10 with speakers in the factory dash locations (the mounts were far from factory though). It was also a very budget system equipment wise.

x-over point on doors 80hz@18db.oct is what i ended up using, the dash woofer was 20hz at 30db/oct hi pass and 160 lopass at 30db/oct, as well i didnt use my rear woofers for sq usulaay but did at finals because of the incredible loud noise floor in the building, my tweeter in the doors were hipassed at 2.2k and lopass at 7.1k, the apillar tweeters were hi passed at 6.3k

I thought your front woofer and rear subs were crossed over different then that.. O well, my mistake..

good enough

Dereck, i wish i had the chance to sit in his 240 or altima again.. After trying a-piller tweets in my car, and listening to a few more at finals, i have found that they work real well for musical tracks but oftain dont do well at the techincal ones (7 drum beat, LCR track etc). The usac cd doesnt have any technical tracks which may explain the results. lol

Interesting topic...does anyone here have the correct procedure for establishing the T/S parameters of a speaker. I think it would be worthwhile for the serious competitor to design their enclosures for the specific drivers they have, instead of the "average" specs published by the manufacturer. A lot of midbass drivers don't even supply specs.

I have the method somewhere around here, and it's not too hard. All you need is a decent linear amp, a multi-meter, a cd with test tones, and a calculator.

You need more than that if you want all the specs you need and accuracy. I am pretty sure you need to weigh the cone down at some point. I used to have very thorough instuctions but I haven't ever used them so they are in a junk drawer somewhere.

Yep you are right DW. I think I had to add a couple of quarters to the cone. Been a few years since I've done it....Fun way to spend a nite tho.
Have to have a couple of resistors too, to align the meter... I'm gonna dig thru my junk drawers tonight.

Hey defro.. given the opportunity I guarrentee Id have you smootching dukks kiester...

no way you could tell where the bass was comming from if you stood in a room blindfolded and someone moved a sub around... although you may hear a difference in response as I was saying, you wouldnt be able to point and say where it was comming from....

defro13 02-04-2005 12:22 PM

i thought we were talking about cars not rooms haunz, and if we were all lucky enough to have lms and leap, it would be a perfect world

Haunz 02-04-2005 03:03 PM

I would consider a car interior a room...
