So NO-ONE has heard DVD-Audio in the car yet??

I think Volvo and the new Acura sedan (based on the Accord, the name escapes me right now) have DVD-Audio capable surround sound systems available as factory options...Maybe I'll pop down to the dealer...

OK here is a question: is there a HU with SACD or a DVD-A for the car...

This is kind of eerie I never thought of this but this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. DVD-A and SACD are NOT selling well, the youth market is the primary market for music... if you don’t have a HU (or a portable player) to decode, then you will not have DVD-A and SACD sales to the youth market. MP3 and iPod win with lower fidelity due to marketing scheme…great.

This was mentioned in earlier posts but I'll mention it again:

Pioneer AVH-P7500DVD & AVH-P7600DVD (available in February) both support DVD-Audio playback in the car.

I've listened to the old Panasonic DVD-A deck. This was back in 2001 I think... the CQ-DVM909U or something like that. Anyhow, sounded pretty good, but just not impressive enough to justify the type of setup you need... the amps, the 5.1... etc. I've also recently heard the new Acura TL. It's system is actually made by Panasonic and comes with a demo disc compliation by Polygram. Anyway, for a stock system, I find it way better than the Bose systems that category of cars usually have. Mind you, it didn't have the impact and tonality that the Lexus Mark Levinson system in the ES300 has.

Too bad there's no 2-chn SACD deck...

My father in law just bought a 2005 Acura TL. The sound system in this car plays DVD-A discs. I listened to it briefly about 2 weeks ago and, for a stock system, the sound quality was excellent. Actually, it is the best stock system that I have ever heard.

Iam setting up a HT system with SACD for my buddies dad in 2weeks... Ive already demoed some systems for him and this one happened to have some nice features in addition to the SACD..

My take..... if we can take information out of a CD and not have an audible difference(256bps MP3) how is having more information then a standard CD going to improve sound quality.... ????

I work at an acura dealership, the 2004, 2005 TL's have a dvd audio system. The RL does aswell. Heres the thing, you could get 5.1 surround with dolby digital on an Alpine pxa-510 using dvd videos and an optical cable. Why should you not be able to put in a DVD audio cd into your dva-5205 for instance, wouldnt that just maek sense because its the processor that deocodes the audio and sends it to the apporopriate channels?

excellent point! My personal opinion is that this dvd-a is not going to be as popular as most people think. It may catch on if dvd-a software is cheap enough, but from the prices I've seen for cd even after 20 years on the market, I can't see too many people rushing out to re-fill their cd collections with dvd-a. The other problem is the younger generation doesn't buy music, they download, usually for free, so who is this geared to. Is the old guy with the caddy and Acura supposed to support this entire medium for the next 20 years. I don't see it happening.

The audio portion on a Video dvd is encoded differently than the audio on DVD-A.

Same reason you cannot play DVD-Audio discs on a home DVD player that only plays DVD Video.
