equipment race - get out out it

From Sux
just think the line gets easily lost between where the extra cost means improved performance or relavant gain and needless excess. I figure you can get easily get 90% of the performance for 50% of the cost of frighteningly expenstive gear. Is less than 10% worth 50% more in cost? To some yes. Not me

I mean really now people, why do we buy the equip we buy? Because it looks good? I hope not (but you never know) you buy stuff because it sounds good. In theory (and this isn’t a rule) something expensive should out perform inexpensive stuff. But does that make it better... only if you can afford it and it has the expected reliability. When is it a good idea to spend more for a deluxe piece of equipment... when the difference in sound makes the purchase of another item unacceptable. Bottom line we generally ALWAYS buy the least expensive thing we can get away with buying. The law of diminishing returns is a real law, the question is where is the knee in the curve, in other words, when does a purchase stop being a “good deal”? This is a question for each of us to answer and it is unique to each person on CCA.
If I want the highest fidelity to the recorded sound, don’t tell me I souldn’t buy something because it is expensive… tell me not to buy it because it doesn’t perform as well as its peers or as well as less expensive equipment.
Don’t tell me I am silly because of the law of diminishing returns tell me how to get there spending less.
Do tell me buying a product isnt worth the money if it has poor reliability

I guess the determining point is what you're happy with. Personally, I'm not happy with anything less than perfection, but my budget gets in the way, so I'm in a constant battle to upgrade and get the best that I can get, and the few connections that I've made have been great to this end. My limitations at this time are more to do with installing the equipment I have/am getting to get the most flawless performance from it that I can extract, and that will be a matter of time and experience (though I'd love to have someone to mentor me and teach me more about SQ setup and installing). so I faithfully plod along, hoping each day to improve myself and the sound that I am capable of extracting from the equipment I have available.

and brandon, you should have taken a far better look and listen to f#1 components, 500 bucks, have you ever seen how much the revalator tweeters are, i noticed that you said you saw the f#1, but did you hear them, unlikely or you would have said so, and if you had heard them, you wouldnt say they are overpriced. i agree that there are laws of diminishing returns, i question how much it applies here, i think we all have to remember that we are employed in the 12 volt industry, it our livelyhood, do you think a guy selling a lamborghini for say 500,000$ would tell his customer that he could sell him a porsche for half as much that would be 90% as fast, assuming that the deal had equal amount of $$$ in it, very unlikely, i think we have to remember why we are here and think about wheather the laws of diminishing returns applies to us, maybe this should be in the viod

In fact, when I said you get do a Rev set for 500 bucks, I was just throwing a number into the air.
I think high priced equipment is useless unless it outpreforms it's price. I haven't heard the F#1 comp set, like I said, but you can pay a lot less for Revs and still have an exceptional sounding speaker, that, were it made by say, Focal or Rainbow, WOULD be high priced.
I would dare say, without checking with Solen first, that you could get the Revs for much cheaper than a Utopia set and have an equally awesome preforming driver.

I can vouch for you.
As I heard a story about you listening to a certain Buick regal. And you told the guy not to change a thing because you said it sounded good.
You were honest and did not try to make the big sale. That to me says a lot about you being an upstanding and honest business man.If I were to buy equipment I would prefer to deal with someone like you with good business practices.
