Question Highs/mids coming out of subs

I have two Clarion PXW1252's hooked to a Lanzar MXA252 (which I know isn't a very great amp, but I had it laying around)

Anyways, even when I have the LPC all the way down on the amp it puts out very faint highs, I can hear the singing or whatever coming through the subs.

Is the crossover on the amp shot? Or is it just cuz it isn't a very good amp? Would this be solved if I bought a subwoofer crossover and hooked it up?

when you mean LPC all the way down, are you referring to the frequency range? You will not properly set the amp just by adjusting the frequency range. your amp should have a hi/lo pass selector that must be in low pass in order to cut out the high frequencies that you hear ( voice ) then use the frequency range set for that low pass filter to adjust your desire range for the subs. if your amp does not have a selector switch like old school amps that were full range then you will require a active crossover or passive crossover aka coil and if the amps crossover is playing full range you must use a form of external crossover.hope this helps and is clear. cheers.

Thanks for the quick response. The amp does have a switch for full, high, or low and I have it to low and still get a little sounds through it, not as much as if it was on full or high but its still there. So would a external crossover keep that from happening by stopping the high frequency from getting to the amp at all? I know they have bass blockers for speakers, is there some sort of equivalent I could use so I would only be getting lows to the amp?

I am assuming that you must using a factory head unit that does not have high and low pass crossovers?

I am using an Alpine CDA-9856 and it has crossovers. I have the low set at 80hz and the high at 10Khz.

Does that HU have a sub dedicated preout? I think it does. Then there shouldn't be any voice coming through your sub if everything is hooked up correctly. I suggest going over all your wiring to make sure you have the correct RCA's plugged into the right locations. Even with the crossover the HU has at least a -12db crossover cutoff. All you should hear is bass if everything is plugged in correctly and set accordingly.

Is the amp hooked up to RCA inputs from the head unit? Or are you running speaker voltage into the amp from the HU?

It's hooked through RCA's and is in the sub outlet...

I went through it all today. There is a sub dedicated preout and that's what I have it plugged in to. Still voice coming out of it. I even tried hooking it into the preouts for rear just too see and the same thing. Don't get it
