Hmmmm what is this SQ thing all about?
Tonality is a way of saying that everything sounds realistic, it comes from speaker placement and EQ'ing to get it to sound as indistinguishable from real life as possible.
Stage placement is all about speaker placement, having as much PLD as possible and then it gets fine tuned with T\A and if available even more so with a "dual mono" type EQ to really get the focus, to pinpoint exactly where the sounds are coming from.

I always look at having good sound like this:
Tonality to me is #1 only if the Staging is there as well.
This is staging!
When sitting at a concert all the music being reproduced is being played in front of you. Singer is in the middle, guitar player on the left side of stage, bass player on the right side of the stage, drummer in behind the singer. When sitting seven rows back you will be able to easily identify each band members placement on the stage. One thing to account for is the room or enviorment the music is being played in. Are you in a small jazz club or are you in a large concert hall? A good SQ car will give you illusiion of what the enviorment is that recording took place in. Thats why I like staging so much!
Tonality can only be enjoyed so much but if the sound system cant accurately reproduce a solid stage and respresentation of the recording then your missing a very important part of sound spectrum.
In a nutsell the music should be coming from in front of you not behind you no matter how correct the tonality of the system is. When going to a concert you dont pay good money to sit backwards at listen to the tonality of the music. You want to face forward so you can see and HEAR where each musician is playing on THE STAGE!!!
That being said I have heard very good sounding cars all over the world that stage well
but lack tonality and its not fun. To me you need BOTH. They go hand in hand.
Like FOZZ said it is not impossible and not much effort to set up a one seat stage in your vehicle. The hard part is when you want your system to sound good and stage well from both seats.
Hope this helps

i have a dedicated 2 channel system at home as well but also use a great set of sennheiser headphones as well.....i spend alot of time in my various vehicles driving, around 6-7000 kilometers/ month and i want that time to be as musically enjoyable as possible....regardless if its listening to 3 inches of blood, or diana krall......
Almost like you planned it eh... causing dissension among the the saints (goodness knows SPL has dissention amongst the sinners)
The term SQ is really kind of elusive as it means different things to different people since there is no consensus written definition other than wikipedia (thus making it mean all things to all people). So frankly the question folks are answering is 'what makes the sound of sufficient quality to be considered a sound quality system'.
I think the definition of SQ is essentially the same as High Fidelity... The reproduction of recorded sound that is accurate to the original performance or recording.
