This is the truest statement you'll read in this thread

And.....

Yes SQ is about always improving and to me it's more of a challenge then SPL. I'm the perfect example - buying one of the most expensive speakers doesn't mean you have good SQ.

MTT - Your hybrid setup vs the new setup to me sounded very similar. Keeping in mind my brief listening time and thankfully our daily music choices are similar. I hated my Focal 4's and you enjoyed them. Over time they sounded boring and lacking. Probably due to placement ect.

Fozzz and I did a brief A/B comparison with the L1Pro and the VifaXT25 - certain nuances became alive and sounds I haven't heard in years since I sold my Vonschweikert home speakers.

ding ding ding!!!!...there's the answer!

all in all it's a fun hobby, ever aspiring to find the sound that makes you happy but never quite getting there and eventually settling.

If just going out and spending 100k on the "best system in the world" was what it was all about, it would be a boring hobby.

now, making your 2k system sound like the 100k one is the fun part.

I'm with you on that one, if it weren't for the fact that it's a buyers market right now, I would have listed my entire system for sale and been done with it, I only ever listen to howard stern anyway.

music lately sucks ***....no wait, as the wife tells me, that's just me getting old

No man....it has sucked for quite a while...it's not you. I've been waiting for this whole era to finish and for some good tunes to come back...just ain't happening. There's only so much miley, brittany, fitty cent, and sampled a guy can take!

You guys are getting old, plenty of good tunes out there. And if you think only old stuff sounds good, then I am sure you haven't listend to all of the old stuff yet, you can always discover new old music from yesteryear.

And I don't care how much you guys try to turn SQ into a subjective argument, in reality, it is how close you can get it to the real thing. Bottom line

my question is, what's the "real thing"?

...a record producers vision of what the artist intended?

...what the artist thought it was going to sound like after it was recorded and over produced?

....like close your eyes and convince me that it's not a speaker but an actual 22 inch cymbal being crashed???

...like you're actually at the jazz club suckin a whiskey sour front row center feeling like bela fleck is playing just for you????

none of this will ever happen....but your wording was careful with "it is how close...."

name a good CD that has been put out since say 2005 and I'll check it out.

and you're right, I'm rediscovering the past by visiting the many "Post your favorite songs" threads...lol
