Looking for advice
First of all, awesome site! Lot's of interesting posts and topics to browse.
I would like some advice on building a system. I currently have a Kenwood KDC-MP442U head unit, Polk db6501's in the doors and an Alpine Type S 10" sealed sub in a 2005 Grand Prix. I had a PPI S580.4 amp powering everything until it imploded last weekend. I am looking to go with a 300 watt mono bock to power the sub, and a 2 channel 100-110 watt amp to power the Polks. Budget is about $600-700 CDN. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

First off, welcome to CCA......
Lots of options here....another solid 4 channel such as this Kenwood X600F would give you the power you are looking for under your budget without compromising quality from what you had.
You could also go 5 channels and do some bridgework.....
One of these Kenwood XR-5S amps would give you 160WX2 for your Polks and still have 350W@4ohms for your sub. Only drawback is the xover would need some help if you wanted to go fully active for your front stage. This unit should also come in slightly under the high end of your budget as well.
Yes I do like the Kenwood Excelon line of equipment, in case you are wondering..... I have found it to be good value for the $ overall and recommend them to any and everyone.....
There will be others here soon with other brands....most makers have similar products to these 2 examples at a comparable price point, after that it's looks and the odd feature or 2 that differentiate them......
Stick with decent brand names and you should be fine....

Thanks for the info. I think the Kenwood XR-5S is the amp I want, although I may have to upgrade the front stage. The Polks only handle 100 watts RMS. I have a credit at Sonic Electronics for the dead PPI amp, but the Kenwood is out of stock. BigRedGuy, where in Mississauga would be the best place for Kenwood Excelon? Who has the best prices?
Thanks
Thanks

Ok, so the frustration continues. The PPI boat anchor is on it's way back to Sonic for credit. They don't have the XR-5S in stock, nor can they tell me when they will have it. I have found this other amp they stock and would like your opinion. It's an RE Audio (USAmps) VLX 4150X. Specs are 125 watts X 4 @ 4 ohms, 400 watts X 2 @ 4 ohms bridged. I can't find any user opinions on this amp. Does anyone here know about them? I know Re Audio's subs have a good reputation.
