I bought all my stuff used but in superb shape, the deck and subs are only 3-4 years old but the amps are closer to 8 or 9, and I couldn't be happier with the result

especially since this setup only cost roughly $850-950ish

Right now my truck has 2 x's both 10" and alpine s type 6x9's the problem with using alpine is the fact there so.. long im looking for a really clean classic look, but yeah my x types pretty good in my truck...

Right now im thinking about going MB Quart I've heard alot of good things about them, will this MB system be close to my alpine system in sound?
Im not really worried about a system thats going to thrash my car.

 

There is nothing wrong with 6x9" speakers, some of them sound better than junky component speakers. If this is the standard era Nova, the rear speaker cutouts are probably going to be a 6x9", so keep it to a good simple 6x9" in the rear. Up front is where you want to pour some $ in. Get some good 6.75" component speakers, spend the time and $ to install them properly. Throw a amplifier to all speakers if you are looking to get some respectable volume out of them. For the sub, if it just rounding out the bass response you are after, a single 10" or 12" sub is all you need. You can also go the dual sub route if a little more output is what you are after. Purchase the right amp and it can power all speakers in the vehicle. The cd player is where all the system starts, screw up on it and whatever is after it can only do so much. Do you need things like IPOD and Satellite radio control? Are you after a simple good sounding cd player or a fancy light show with lots of bells and whistles. The best of systems are the ones that are matched together properly. I choose items based on the customers application, budget and future expansions. This very seldom leads to a one brand fits all approach. Your Nova, your budget and your goals are going to be very different than anyone else's, treat the system the same way.

Come up with a budget and a game plan. Figure out what you may want to do in the car in the future. Then a proper system can be developed for you. As far as MB Quart goes, it is alright line. It is not the fine speaker line that it was 5 years ago though. It is also incredibly hard to get warranty service on as there is no current Canadian importer of the line. As such all speakers must be sent back to the US for warranty (I have 4 pairs of speakers to send back right now for example). good greif people, lol if youur wanting a nice and natural sound and dont want to destroy the factory look of your car then please take it to a shop and let them do what they do best ! personaly we have seen alot of vintage cars through the shop doors, i would keep it simple and clean. if it was mine to do i would suggest fiblerglass kick panels, not cutting the doors apart
also i would either place the tweeters in the 3"1/2 locations in the dash to give you a better sound stage. i would not run rear fill, but a single 12" sub to fill the cabin with the low frequency properly would be best. there are lots of options here so dont be scared. now the other thing is your hu, has someone already cut the dash are you looking to keep the factory radio in tact, even working ? you may have to remote mount the face plate in a sun visor or in the headliner. now im just ramling on lol heres a 71 stingray that we did and kept the fatory radio working.

 

Well my plane is to shred apart the interior seeing as it is an older car fix whatever is starting to rust x.X as with the trunk dynomatting everything, (and stop anything that rattles man that drives me nuts) and at that phase i was gonna wire everthing so it could be all hidden i hate random cords, My price range is probally like 1000-1750 somewheres in there, Yeah im up for any suggestions, Especially from anybody who obviously knows alot more than me about car audio.

I dont think there is anything wrong with 6x9's myself.

The best setup that I have ever had (especially for the budget I had at the time) was Infinifty components up front, Pioneer 6x9's in the rear deck, two Sony 10s in the truck. 2 way crossover from MTX for the interior speakers. Dont remember the EXACT wattage (as this is going back like 8 years or so) but around an Alpine or Sony 400 watt amp for the components up front. A small Cobalt amp for the rear speakers, and I believe it was a MTX 1000 amp for the subs. Again, the wattage and exact makes could be a bit off. Im going off of memory here.

It sounded really good. Great sound up front. The people in the rear got some nice volume from the 6x9's. Great thump. I could control the inner speakers with the crossover, depending on what type of music Im listening to. all in all, was a nice setup.


EDIT: Two things: 1) SWEET FREAKING CAR my friend. 2) If you arent that proficient with installing audio .. on a car like that .. definitely spend the money and take it in to have it done.

I'm pretty happy with my MB Quartz reference components, but if I had to do it again (and i will), i'd go higher end.
PVF 216 is what i'd buy today.

and my opinion for the rest of the system, since you asked:
subs, type x 12's
6x9's pioneer 4-way,
amps pioneer premiere
deck alpine with 6 pack changer.

all of that, as high end as you can afford.

 

My bud has 2 eclipse ti's man there gorgeous, i think they would look really good cause of the black outline and stainless center.(black car chrome accents) They sound really good to. To what Ive heard there a really good sq sub, since not being a complete audio nub (although im close) i know that like 75% or more comes from the sub box itself and not the sub. I may be young but i've worked in an autobody shop for a while and have acess to about everthing. There's no way once im done its going to less than show room quality. Since its an older car its got a completly sealed off trunk and since I want a nice sound inside the car could i'm thinking about placing the vents towards the inside of the car problem with this is not the trunk wall in the way that can be cut out ppft.. Its im afraid of ripping apart my woofers... excuse my terrible drawings but it was quik (the white squares the vent, the round one is the sub) My problem is that some of the air is going to bounce off the back wall and come back and fight with the next wave of air going to the back wall...
I guess its not much differnt than thoose ports every1 does on the side but better safe than sorry

It's been a really long time since I peered into the trunk of a Nova but quite often a custom bandpass with 2 or 3 10s is a good option as all of the bass goes into the car, not the trunk.
