Unfortunatly you probably haven't seen to many amps, because the people who had good experiences with them are few and far between. The only reason they sell any(IMO) is because their CHEAP! If you want SQ then don't wast any money on anything sony. The decks pre outs distort at half volume and the amps don't make the power they claim to.

Sony c90 is very capable, but the rest is crap. And I think the list refers to questionable brands not to take anything away from the product, but only so that they have different categories, and that "better" products usually yield an even better experience.

well, be that as it may, I've used some of the "best" amps out there, including DLS, a couple of old RF's some Kickers, and listened to lots and lots more and my old sony "760w" cast aluminum case amp is the cleanest sounding amp I've heard.

My current sony's are very nice as well. Personally I think it all comes down to power supply, and yes I'm using amps that are vastly overpowering for what I'm running, so the power supply is more than adequate, wheras amps built by better brands tend to have more robust power supplies so they do not need to have as high a rated wattage to sound as good when taxed by large peaks and louder passages.

that said, a watt is a watt is a watt. as long as it's clean, it's all the same.

A watt is a watt..but music has more to it than power.. like damping, stereo seperation is a HUGE one for proper imaging. signal to noise ratio.. QUALITY parts

Good to see you have good run with Sony. I think however, that your DLS experience may have been flawed with improper settings or badly used up gear or the bottom feeder line, etc. DLS Ultimate(top end) is one of the best amps I have heard, not to mention the specs, flexibility, and capabilities; and to me it is not even in close proximity to a Sony amp on any account.

LOL you're funny, you have no idea what my experience is, but you'd like to tell me that I don't have any. The DLS amps in question are the DLS A7, A6 and A3 amps, which are (just so you know) the ultimate series. I've heard them in my own IASCA world finalist car, and Jamie Edmundson's car... obviously flawed setting would have to be the rule there
I've also listened to verye highly regarded IASCA SQ cars with memphis, Kicker, mmatts, JL audio, RF, Tru C7 tube, Alpine, Zed, Zapco, Audisson Vrx, VRX EX, AND the Thesis, as well as many other amps... obviously very limited experience with bad settings all around

Damping factor and stereo separation are important, absolutely, and you of course have the reference numbers to do with where those hit the hard wall of diminishing returns? Of course, the fact that I am running a stereo amp bridged mono for each mid kind of kills the stereo separation arguement, and the damping factor on any decent amp is far higher than necessary for quality reproduction.

If sundown is your mark of quality, the you really have to go out and get some more experience.

If you can tell the difference between amps using a clean signal, level matched, then please take up Richard Clark in his offer and make yourself $10,000 richer. Once you've done that, you may conclusively tell me that you have the answers on amps.
