the older black Chassis sony mobile ES amps were serious SQ amps for their time. Sony even made a rediculous $18k US amp back in the late 80's with all gold circuitry...

when I was in highschool I had this old tube amplifier, best sounding amp i've ever heard. Only problem was it ran so hot I had to keep a 19" fan on it so it would play for more than 20 min. If only I could get that house sized thing in a car......

I've heard them in my own IASCA world finalist car, and Jamie Edmundson's car... obviously flawed setting would have to be the rule there
I've also listened to verye highly regarded IASCA SQ cars with memphis, Kicker, mmatts, JL audio, RF, Tru C7 tube, Alpine, Zed, Zapco, Audisson Vrx, VRX EX, AND the Thesis, as well as many other amps... obviously very limited experience with bad settings all around

Damping factor and stereo separation are important, absolutely, and you of course have the reference numbers to do with where those hit the hard wall of diminishing returns? Of course, the fact that I am running a stereo amp bridged mono for each mid kind of kills the stereo separation arguement, and the damping factor on any decent amp is far higher than necessary for quality reproduction.

If sundown is your mark of quality, the you really have to go out and get some more experience.

If you can tell the difference between amps using a clean signal, level matched, then please take up Richard Clark in his offer and make yourself $10,000 richer. Once you've done that, you may conclusively tell me that you have the answers on amps.
I kindly withdraw my comments. Hail to the new Audio Guru!!!

Guru is a little strong, but I do have my fair share of experience, There are many on this forum who have more experience than I do, and who have more knowledge, however, none of them have weighed in on this thread... Most have already realized that this arguement is pointless.

You want a cheap 4 channel try Dual it is what i have used for my speakers over several years and have never had a problem with one and have never paid more then 120 for one new. Also looking at that list it is funny how some bad or questionable are the same build parts as some of the good or highly recommended.

I have been looking around too, and while keeping budget in mind, memphis amps look pretty good, I also have a Cadence audio amp and have seen quite a few that are good value for dollar.

Mosfets should only be used in the power section.. NOT the output stage. a DUAL amp is just a head unit with more power. not cleaner..just more
