I don't listen to MP3's in my car, but I do listen to Xm radio which has the same compression factors. I wouldn't sit in my garage listening to it, but when your driving down the road the difference, when you can acutally hear it, isn't bad, because there is other noise and other things are on your mind.

^^^I won't go near an MP3 disk.

And....I feel that CDs don't offer what they should either. Sony SACDs make normal cds sound like a re-recorded MP3.

But...since we are stuck with mass marketed music on CDs, I will continue to buy CDs to support the artists that I like. After all, it is a business.

Can you not record music onto an iPod (via iTunes) as AIFF files directly from a CD with no compression? I guess the D/A converter on the iPod is lame, but.

In iTunes (under import - Preferences) you have five choices.....

AAC encoder
AIFF encoder
Apple Lossless encoder
MP3 encoder
WAV encoder

Unless, of course, the files get converted to MP3 files when linking to iPod. Somehow I doubt that, because you can store other data on the iPod like you would an external HD. APPLE! please make iPod with digital out -- hee hee
