mustang install
so the actual man that designs the speakers does'nt know which one to recommend?geez, and to think he built my bud's 12" avi neo's.pesonally,i've run both lx160 and sl 170 as midbass and liked the 170's better.my bud also runs avi components
hf25v,mxd130,and a set of sl200 8"subs that were reworked for midbass use, along with the neos,in a chev tracker, and in our sleepy little town, nothing even comes close to it
anyway,i've pretty much decided on what equipment i'm going to use, wanted more opinions on placement, especially the subs.eg.-behind rear seat facing up,back,forward-in very back of hatch, facing up,forward toward listener?
i found for spl, firing rearward from behind seat into hatch gave most output, but what about for sq?

1st of all bong has never built a speaker in his life, richard at avi has built practically every woofer and midrange to come from avi, he has been there since day 1. tina had engineered and designed all the avi speakers for the last 5 years, before that there was another guy there for a year or so(cant remember his name) and before that was howard doctor and none of them would recommend the sl170 as a midbass, but do what you want. good luck i hope it works well for you

[/qb]
So you are basically saying that this Bong guy has no idea what he is talking about? I hope he isn't important there. [/QB]
i never said that he doesnt know what he is talking about and yes he is very important, hes the money behind the company, without bong there is no avi

just got off the horn with richard from avi--
told me that the sl170 is desisged as such that it would make a very good mid bass-in the proper tuned enclosure, with the right crossover-xn16l,xn45g. case closed, i'm using them.

yes in the proper box .75 minimum ported, can you get that in your mustang, not likely. i have far more experience with the speakers in a car environment that richard, im sure even he will say that. my name is dave oakley from car audio in kelowna bc, ask richard how many car stereo installs he's done, very few if any, and when avi develops a new product, amp , mid, woofer, i am one of the first to get it for evaluation. i was the first one to get the 2 channel and 4 channel amps for testing. call richard and ask him the last time he heard avi speakers in a car and not in a test enclosure in a room. and btw the avi 3 way passives arent worth the paper the original specs were printed on
actually, the spec sheet for that driver indicates a midi vent vol of .4 cu ft and a maxivent vol of .53 cu ft,also i'm not using the three way passives-too high midbass cut-800hz.the 16l will give the midbass 400hz down,45c's for midrange/tweet-400hz&3500hz.

i have built the midi vent box and to keep the vent velocity low the port has to be larger than the one recommended which makes it impractical. bong has asked me to redo alot of the box recomendations that are on his site because some are still for the old speakers, one of these days when i get some time i will, anyway, good luck, just dont apply that sl170 infinite baffle
