New Iasca Rules Coming!
#1
Just wanted to get some feedback as to what you guys think about some of the new rule changes for 2006.
SPL and RTA are back. You will have a score for SPL and RTA and have to go through the judges lane without making adjustments to the EQ. Some people feel that SPL and RTA have nothing to do in an SQ event, but it will definately make you set up your car differently. I could be wrong, but from what I understand, the power classes will all be unified in every category.
I was told that there is no more power classes, just the category you compete in! To get more info, go to the site, but it looks as though it could be a wild year for IASCA.
What are your thoughts? Should SQ have these items in them?

The whole thing seems to be up in the air with competitors. Some hate the idea, and some like the idea because it makes you have a good sounding car that has to be smooth in freq response as well as play loud. Maybe those things shouldn't be there, but the fact that they throw a curve at you and make you really think about your sound setup is kind of interesting.
Anyhow, I hope there is no big thing either....that was messy.

I say get rid of RTA and SPL. I have no desire to make my vehicle loud, I don't listen to music loud, so why should I pay for more equipment to make my veicle more competitive? I also think they should quit renaming the classes every couple of years and just go back to Rookie, Amature, Pro, Expert.

RTA has no real bearing on SQ. This seems to be the biggest issue. SPL seemsto have people on both sides of the fence. An RTA cannot tell you how your car sounds. A smooth curve dosent mean your car sounds "smooth". And unless your mic is calibrated the same as the mic that is being used for testing, you probably wont get the same results anyway. I went to lots of shows this past year. RTA was never used due to noise issues. But I figured that it would be used for sure at Finals this year. So I was the sucker who dragged all my stuff (had to check out of the hotel)into the hall at 7am to prepare for my RTA testing. I made sure my score would have been perfect (or close to) and it didnt even get judged because the hall was too noisy! I still won, but I could have use the sleep.

Why the concern?...... running a flat curve at 135+db could hurt the sensitive mid/high frequency drivers. which will effect the SQ.
