I agree that 135db is bloody loud - my point is that a decent comp set should handle that for under 30 seconds with no problems at all.

A simple incandescent bulb inline with a tweeter will not, in my opinion, audibly affect SQ. Most component sets, including high dollar ones, include them so they can't be all bad..
The truth is...... the high end mid/tweeters (at $3500+ level) components are not design to handle 135db period..... not even for 5 sec! Most high end speakers has much higher force motors or lighter diaphrams and its much more responsive when compared to component at around $1000 or less.

The light bulb has a sonic characteristic of its own..... and I wouldn't recommended if you're building an all out SQ system. They are used in some of the mid end products like Kef or Bose etc but not Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 7, X-1 or JM Lab Be etc.

At regular listening levels (ie before the lightbulb starts working) one will not hear it's presence. It is a mere length of wire.

Also, higher force motors with lighter diaphragms = more control so these should be more tolerant of high power forays. Most drivers are thermally limited anyway and even a 1" coil should tolerate that power.
</font>
O.k. then prove it!

Pick up a set of Focal Be and play at 135db for 30 sec.

I'll supply the Audio Control analyzer, source/amplifier and you supply the speakers.

The entire system has to hit 135 Joe, not just the components.............the subs will handle 90% of that spl all on their own.............

Yes!...... I realize that. this is no longer about IASCA. Its about if the mid/tweets could handle 135db period...... with no help from the sub!

We've been talking about Mid/Tweet not the tweeter alone!

You need to go back and read the earlier post.......

Decent comp = mid/tweets playing 80-20K and no subs.....
