New Subs + Amp + Enclosure -- sounds awful?!
#1
Can someone please tell me why this sounds so bad?
This is in a BMW with a ski-hole to port the sound into the cabin.
Previously, I had some half-fried Zeus 10" Subwoofers in there (240watts a piece). This was hooked up to a Zapco AG250 amp. This is in your standard sealed box. (two separate air spaces in the box.)
So, one of the Zeus's finally decided to die on me. Time to upgrade! I picked up a JBL 600.1 monoblock amp. And 2 JL Audio 10W6's (300 watts RMS each.) The new enclousure for them is ported with a plexiglass window on the front. Both subwoofers are on an angle and fire into a middle air space. The back of the subwoofers are ported to the rear. This is a JL Audio box designed for W3's.
Now... I turn it on.. amp powers up no problem... and without even turning it up half way--the lights begin dimming with the bass... but I hear next to nothing! .. I take a look in the trunk.. the woofers are getting a hell of a workout.. moving like crazy. Lots of air coming out of the ports... but still not much bass!
So what did I do wrong? The amp is drawing enough power to dim the lights (which never happened before), and the subs are pumping pretty hard... just not audible.
Is this a wiring problem?.. problem with the ohms or something like that?.. or is it just the enclosure??
HELP!

Gotta luv quick easy solutions eh!?!
I was able to stop a lot of the traditional trunk rattles by coupling the box to the metal around the opening of the ski-boot hole in the allignment you described (angling the woofers at the opening 45 degrees)
Dukk won't approve, but for this application I've got a sealed box so no energy is directed into the trunk by ports etc and the install is super stealth.
Good luck with the install!
