Not Sure If This Belongs Here

This thread may be in the wrong section and I apologize if that is the case. I was just wondering about the amount of mids and highs I am going to need for my build. I have a sub that I'll be running at 3k (No idea what box yet, probably just sealed.). I ordered 1 6.5" Hifonics Zeus component set so far. I have 5x7 speakers in the rear pillars of my truck, should I replace them or take them out altogether? Would 2 component sets be too much? Too little?

Are you powering the speakers with a different amp or off the deck? One set might not be enough to get all the highs and mids. Might wanna lookfor 5x7 which can be a pain sometimes

With 5x7's, you really want to make sure they are the RIGHT fit, because in my truck ('88 Bronco II), I got some from a shop (said they were specifically made for ford), tried to put them in to replace the stock 5x7's, and they didn't fit. Took them back and got a new set, those again didn't fit. I ended up just enlarging the holes with my Dremel and using the second set that I got but I'm sure I could have found some that fit right in the first place if I looked long enough, I'm just impatient and when I want something done, I do it NOW. :P So..... don't be like me. haha

It depends on the power and the quality of the components, and the size of the sub/box/power. I don't think a 12-15-18 sealed on 3k will drown out a decent set of 6.5's. Decent 6.5" comps at RMS (60-120W) won't be over-bearing, and won't be drowned out. Two sets is even better though. 8's would be nice for rear mids. 5x7's & 6x9's just suck. Look for speaker pods for doors online, like partsexpress.

Im still trying to find a good box design. I can make custon fiberglass panels so the panels arent an issue. Maybe just get 2 6.5 component sets? Im just running crossovers with them

Are you powering them from the deck or with an amp? Go with powering one set of 6.5's with an amp before buying two sets and wiring them up to the deck. Massive difference in SQ & SPL when powered externally.

A good box design for sealed? Buy one locally at a shop or online - sealed Bassworx boxes (10's & 12's) are sturdy & cheap, with rounded edges to reduce standing-waves. Might not handle 3k though.

Two sets of 6.5's will be great, but if you don't want to lack any mid-bass than get ones that have a frequency response that goes down to 60-80 Hz, the lower the better. Well placed speakers will do more than buying more speakers.

If you're buying seperate tweeters, I think you'll be even more picky with them. Those are always either too stratchy/ringy or too dull, I find.

The treatment of where the speakers are going will have more of an effect on how well they play the lower frequencies than the speakers themselves.

That sounds confusing. How about this:
