My $.02
Take two amps, both rated the same wattage output at the same standard.
One has a rise time of 10 volts/microsecond, the other 30 v/us.
Use the better one for a week (long enough to be able to experience a brief moment that you ears and mind listen at their best).
Then swap it out for the lower quality amp.
If you don't hear a difference within a day or two, then you are one of the many humans that don't need to spend a pile of cash on an expensive amp.
Those of us that can percieve a benefit (however slight, and for whatever reason) should be allowed to comment without the constant blathering from those that don't.
While I can't afford to pay $100/watt for my power, if I could, I probably would, and I don't want to hear from anyone that thinks I should stick to a Learjet or Sherwood, thanks.

Just face it, your analogy sucked if you wanted to "prove" that all amps sound the same.

people who claim they can are like people who can hear amps
when put in the situation they always fail
Not every aftermarket intake is a steel tube with a cone filter for a 4 cyl economy car.

I've had the chance to do lots of A/B comparisons and for the most part I could not tell the difference between amps. I've done this with car amps and home amps in my own listening room. But there have been times when two amps do have different sound charecteristics. Most of the time the differences where not in tonality but in the sound stage height and instrument placement. There was only one ocation where I noticed a noticable tonality difference was with my HK 8000 reciever and an Antique Sound Lab's 44 watt Tube amp that I borrowed from a friend. The differences were noticable but not huge. And I would doubt the differences would be noticed in a car.
My A/B testing was for myself, and was not a watt for watt test. But when I buy amps for my car I dont really care how many watts they are. So when a person asks me if there is a sound dirfference from one amp to another my response is generally, there can be, but the differences are very small and would be hard or impossible to notice in most cars.

the ****iest amp you can find will probably have an acceptable slew rate.... anything better then 2v/ms is fine...
you can't hear a difference between amps... period... I wish people would stop talking about it like they can...
