rear fill is useless or not
hey,hey ,hey, what's up boys and chicks. I know this is SQ forum, but I got to say that when I fade everything to the front, I feel ripped off. The sound isn't better, it's thinner, lacks depth and impact. It feels like I'm in a fiero not a big car. I guess you guys hear somethin' I don't. As far as I'm concerned I hope I never get to the point you guys are at. I love my system and the only way it could get better is if the artists start writin' some decent tunes.

You are hearing the symptoms of the very problems that are in that link I posted originally. Read up.
And, you are hearing many of the things that I stated in my post above...
You are confirming these things, not disproving anything:
Doors don't make ideal cabinets... at least not stock. Those cancellations WILL kill off your midbass... and as a result, if you ran your speakers that way, alone, up front - it WOULD sound thin and weak.
That's WHY install is so important...
That's WHY factory locations suck, stock...
...that's no sign that "rear fill sounds better"... rather, that's a sign that your front stage is deficient in many ways - most likely due more to install than the actual speakers you have.
...I mean, no doubt it sounds better in your particular install... it's a band-aid.
The reason things sound worse when you fade up front, is because you are removing the band-aid (rear fill) and exposing the wounds (many insufficiencies in your front stage).

A system might sound top notch using rear fill....but who cares, I think everybody is totally forgetting what audio systems are all about....The REPRODUCTION of music.....so rearfill is great if the music was recorded from behind the band, but since it isn't, rearfill is kinda useless except for ambience or maybe to help with some width/height problems, or in a 5.1 system.
i gave up rear fill a long time ago and i dont miss it. just run a set of avi xl direct components in the door and a ss250 in a ported box and to me thats a good enough sound i dont miss the rear fill at all, to me it sounds pretty balanced. but...some local mechanic took my car to do some work on it oneday and came back bitching about my system saying there wasnt enough sound coming from the rear when i said i had no speakers back there he didnt understand. then i saw what he did to his bosses car, 3" speakers in dash 5 1/4 in the doors 5x7 in rear stock location 6x9's in boxes and a 10" sub in a haggard home stereo cab. it was a little overkill for my liking that "system" kinda overwhelemed me a bit. i dunno i guess its just all personal opinion.

Rear fill can be cheaper, easier, and perfectly exceptable to someone as opposed to custome installs, time correction, better components, etc.
I say it's a matter of opinion. I think it's a little harsh to say to someone "Rear speakers only sound better to you because you didn't install your front speakers correctly", or "because your front stage is deficient". Unless you are a "true" audiophile, it's unlikely that minor cancellations and "phasing anomalies" will concern you too much, when by simply adding rear speakers you can make things sound good enough for your tastes.
