you said "a pair of speakers" ....very vague

...you could mean subs....tweeters?

size would be fun info to have too

it's awesome to spew brands without actually knowing the question.

I vote funky pups!

focal and hertz are both some pretty decent brands. JL and Alpine don't really have much to offer in that price range that will even compare to what focal and hertz have. Check out hertz Mille line, and Focal K series components. The new krs' and krx's are extremely nice and you can pick them up for just within your budget.
each of these companies sound very different from one another, so for that kind of money you 100% need to listen in person to make a decision. for the most part focal has very bright crystal sounding speakers, while the hertz has a more mellow natural sound. as far as JL, i just find them harsh

all in all, although there may be plenty of good speakers out there to be had, you have some pretty sweet options there with the focal and hertz, you can't get much better than their high end stuff. im a big fan of anything from ellectromedia (also if you plan on going active, you can purchase hertz speakers without the passive crossover, and get the woofer/tweeters individually, saving your self some money)

The A7 runs 60W x 4 and 300 x 1 (at 4 ohm).

Is 60w enough for a Hybrid front end?

Hello Mahna Mahna:

60 w minimum, their literature claims 80-85 rms actual,I am running the Morel Sw6 6" midbass,Morel MT23's and the Hybrid L3's with the A7's (2) and have no complaints so far. Two shows as a rookie = two second places,One show as an amatuer with a first place. Judges & myself have never thought the system lacked power. It cranks very well and still stays clean and clear. The ID MAx 10" is getting the 300 min to each coil. I am happy with the bass. I still have a lot of tuning to go to get the system dialed in. Plan on buying a laptop soon to make tuning much easier. Thanx and have a good 1.
