SACD player is finally here...
Well, the way i look at it..... Its better late then never.
Just that its too bad that Sony came out with a mid-end SACD player.... But I could understand that if Sony release the Flag ship ES model... and if it flop. it would really hurt their bottom line.

SACD is a good sounding format, but one does have to ask... why is Sony and SACD so late to the party? Alpine, Pioneer and JVC (amongst others) already have in car DVD Audio decks... although I am not sure how many people buy the decks for this reason over DVD playback.
If ever an environment were ripe for "surround music" a car (or van in my case) is it! Maybe the new "Love" cd/DVD audio set might change things...
With all that said, there just are not enough "good" DVD Audio 5.1 mixes to justify it.... IMO

maybe one of the reason Sony is late is to do with the issue that SACD format is only superior to CD from 5-10K and DVD-A is 0-100K.... ?
But it does have its virtues........ CD vs SACD vs DVD-A

Yep, some technophile will have to get one to throw on the shelf beside the DAT, DCC, and MD players.
SACD is finally here and the whole world goes: so?
too little, too late, to a consumer group that doesn't care. Way to go Sony!!

Well, i'm no technophile by any means..... my interest in audio equipment is all about what sounds good. and being a long time music lover, and with my musical background (piano, violin). i alway look for ways to improve the playback systems. if it'll be the source, preamps, speakers, acoustics etc.
i have no loyalty to brand names.... i usually look for potential in equipments, and not hype or what is in. my reference for sound are real acoustic instruments and not play back systems.
With that said...... SACD was a format i originally didn't like. but thats with the Sony flagship home player (as i originally thought it was). I have listened to it from numerous high-end home audio stores with the same conclusion. (using a hybrid disc for reference). It was after i heard it from a Musical Fidelity player is what convinced me. the unit plays both CD and SACD like the Sony. except this time we have two copy of the same recording in both format. During our audition.. the SACD always sounded more analog like every time. one of the findings were “some” hybrid disc actually sounds worst then the CD, but the SACD only disc seems to sound better every time (so far). So I went back to one of the high-end store for another audition with the Sony player. But now with the SACD only disc vs the CD for the comparison, and yep! It was definitely better. It even surprised the salesman there. now I have no idea if the car SACD will sound even close to any of these $10K+ players. but i'll have to see.
I'm glad they finally released the player though.. that means the DVD-A now have competition. hopefully there'll be a player in the future that'll play SACD, DVD-A, CD and sounds good.
