I recently installed some new 6.5" speakers all the way around in my 2001 Acura EL. I basically wanted to upgrade the sound from the factory speakers with a little more bass and clarity.

I put 2 POLK AUDIO MMC650's in the back and 2 POLK AUDIO DB650 in the front. I also bought an AUDIOBAHN A4002T amp which I was going to use to power the more powerful MMC650's in the back. I tried the rear speakers with and without the amp, and they sounded pretty much the same, so I just left all the speakers to be powered by my deck, which is a JVC KD-AR870. Once this was finished I found the high's to sound great, a definite improvement, but the lows aren't great. I know these speaker's aren't subs, but I was hoping to see a significant improvement in the low end with higher volumes compared to the factory speakers. Even in lower volumes I am hearing decent bass, but almost none of those sorta hip hop deep bass lines, mostly just bass punch. The rear MMC650's which are the special momo series have 80 watts rms, while the deck is most likely pushing only 20 or so rms. I was talking to a futureshop audio install tech and he said its always better to put your better speakers in the front because the back are just used for fill. Should I switch these around? Another other suggestions? Is getting a sub the real only way to get better bass at a little higher volumes? If so what would be a good sub to buy which would work nicely with my AUDIOBAHN A4002T amp which says it has 400 watts rms bridged mono. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

to get better sound you should hook your speakers to your amp.I never listen to polk speakers but from what ive heard before they were not the best in low frequencies but they had good comments on it.For a sub it all depend on your budget,size.

the guy at future shop was right.. usually you do put the better speakers in the front.. as for low end, I find that factory usually do have more bass. I dont know why, but they do.

 

factory speakers are taylored to offer more bass but by doing so sacrafice clean vocals.
Higher quality speakers generally dont go that route with the intent on cleaner smoother more realistic sound reproduction with the manufacturers knowing in the end you will add a sub.
That bein said you should put the better of the speakers in the front and the amp to power them.An amp will also increase your mid bass responce but in the end if its bass your after its a sub you should be adding. Also consider improving upon the enclosure your speakers are operating in.IE sound deaden you doors and you will hear a remarked difference in bass mid bass and mid range responce and clarity especially when driving road noise kills mid bass

 

The only way to get bass is with the proper speaker..this means at least an 8...So I will use a 12, in a vented box, and I am very agree to improve the place where your mid's are (the front)....I dont like to use speakers in the back, and less to amplified them...Is a waste of money...

 

I agree with that,in my car my component run from an amo and my 6x9 runs fom the deck because I just want a more all around sound than an all infront sound wich Ive tried nd wich
i dont like,but this is my taste so its not an obligation to do that lke this.And you should put your best spekers in front toadd front kick.Also you cn replacedynamat with resisto or concrete sealer(rubber type,its the same thing as dynamat for 20 cheaper,you just have to put 2 layers insted of one,I put resisto in my front doors and it akes all the difference).Or I give you a link for more cost effective damping material.
