Question

Hmmm so, T4's are starting to come to me here. I've gotten 2 of my 3 T4's so far, but i'm wondering what else i should be getting.

I invested about $4,000 earlier in feb 05 in various rrsp's (i think, bank lady did what she felt was right and i trust her). Is that gonna count towards tax's i'm doing this year? or will those go towards next years tax's? Should i be getting anything from them, good or bad?

As well, i've been paying, and actually paid all of my student loan off thru out 2004. Should i be expecting/waiting for a form of some kinda from canada student loans?

I think those are my only two questions/concerns, or at least the only two i can think of at the moment.

Anything done in 05 will be for next year I think... kinda like rent it had to be for the year ur filing the taxes for nothing in 05 would count towards it.

The cut off date for RRSP contributions for 2004 is March 1st 2005.

No disrespect to the forum members, but you should go to a place that prepares taxes and have your taxes done...they will tell you what you need if you explain your situations to them.

You will receive an RRSP contribution slip from your bank after March 1, 2005. You are allowed to contribute RRSP's in the first 60 days of the year following the tax year in question. Your RRSP contribution will be applied against your 2004 income.

Assuming your loans are registered student loans that are entitled the the student loan interest tax credit, you should be able to apply that against your 2004 income. Ideally, you will receive a statement from the lending institution that identifies the interest for the 2004 year. If you haven't, you might want to contact them for this information. This will get entered into your T1 for 2004.

I don't trust H&R Block. I have seen and heard too many horror stories.

I don't trust H&R Block either.

Regarding QuickTax, for the average individual, it is convenient and straight forward. If you are somewhat capable QuickTax will do the job.

However, please don't lump all tax preparers in the same boat. H&R Block's of the world are the ones that give tax preparation a bad name. H&R Block's of the world are capable of filing your tax return but they are not capable of giving your professional tax advice. I also believe their rate of error in tax return preparation is significantly higher than a professional.

If you have more difficult issues in your tax return such as investment transactions, business income, rental income, joint venture income, farming income, partnership income, etc. I would seek professional advice such as a chartered accountant.
