Nice looking deck, lots of useless features that don't affect SQ but seems to be something to make kids' mouths drop say damn.

I like the D/A section.
But what I really like is the way this deck looks, it looks to me like Clarion is using a lot of thier old styling techniques.
Call me crazy but I'm kinda reminded of my 9255 when I look at the 835MP, I don't know what about it reminds me of it, it just does.

I'd like to see more companies style their decks the way they used to....like alpine with big square,"ice cube" buttons and stuff like that....I think that'd be pretty cool....and it wouldn't be hard to make a deck like that look good...imagine an Alpine 7949 that has some roundness and a more colourful display and things like that.

Anyway, that's just something that caught my eye today as I was sitting in Chapters reading the latest PAS mag.

I have one of those in my wife's car. It's a pretty decent piece. Huge screen color selection so you can pretty much match it up with any dash lighting. All Clarion now needs is a processor that actually has a pile of useful features. Hey Clarion, how about a Pioneer P9 style processor!??!? I asked them and they said no with nothing on the horizon at all.

Anyways, I recommend this piece to anyone looking for a nice deck.

the 835 retails for 450 generaly, so they dont cost that much new, but they do not have much markup on them so dont expect to get it for much cheaper.

Im still unsure about what i think about that deck yet.

Well I went in a shop today that had one and I was looking at it....of course I couldn't easily take our my Alpine to hear it in my car so I couldn't really judge the sound ,but, from what i did hear, it was really nice....and I suppose I'd like it much better in my car...it's got some nicer features than my Alpine(except no tilting face) and it has many different coloured back-lighting which I liked...the buttons were easy to read and the menus were pretty easy to manuever through.

I like the deck, Clarion did a nice job with this one. Good sound, looks and easy to use...and it costs around the same as my Alpine.
So the Volvo may be equiped with one of these when I get some extra money.

The other thing is that it's one of the hottest sellers for them right now. I had to wait a month to get one. Things may have changed recently though.

Hehe looks good in there Dave. I'm not sure about the green LCD lighting though...might look better in red or orange....but then again I suppose you made it to match the dash lighting.

Hey, what happened to the DXZ-825 you had?
Is the 835MP gonna be your next deck or still undecided?

I have been using the 835mp for a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with it. It looks nice, sounds very nice, and is easy to use. I just couldn't hold out for the eclipse cd8053 so I had the shop put in the 835(I have run eclipse decks for the past 9 years). I may very well get sirius hooked up this weekend too. The bazillion different colors, while "useless" in an SQ sense, should help them sell alot of decks to those more concerned with matching their decks to their dashlighting. The shop checked the pre outs on my deck when setting the gains, and they didn't start to clip until 32(max volume is 33).

I really am very pleased with the deck. You can see the display in direct sunlight, and the layout of the deck is very nice as well. I am not a huge "tweaker," but the sub control lever on the faceplate is a very good idea IMO. I may end up going back to eclipse at some point(if and when the 8053 ever hits stores, and their sirius unit comes out), but for now, I really don't think I am missing out on much by running the clarion. Oh, and Fwiw, there is a clarion/alpine dealer 2 hours from here. The owner(the shop's former jl rep) said he felt clarions not only sounded better than the alpines, but the clarions were also more reliable. I add that in because I don't think clarion gets much mention on most of the forums. Many people seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to head units("i need a new one, do i get the alpine or the pioneer" for example).

Well, I dunno if it's more reliable than the Alpine, but it is a nice deck, I really enjoyed playing with the 835MP.

I'm a skeptic when it comes to anything new...untill I hear it for myself or try it out I don't really like to say much.

I've been using Alpine for a long time now and have grown very fond of them...I've NEVER had an ounce of trouble with them.

this is my first year running a Clarion HU. I like them a lot so far...My deck sounds incredible...of course that's the DRX-9255 and I haven't yet used any of the new stuff in my own vehicle but if the DRX is any indication of the SQ that the new stuff will produce then I may do a complete switch and run Clarion in everything I own.

But, like I said, I haven't had any of the new stuff in my car, so at the first sign of trouble I'll be taking the Clarion back getting another Alpine or possibly a lower end (if there is such a thing) Denon unit...if the budget allows.

I'm hearing nothing but good things though...and as far as I know my DRX hasn't had any problems since 1997 when it was built so I'd say that Clarion would be a good choice when it comes to decks.....now if only they'd make something like the Z1 or the old DRX-9255 again...something that's down to buisness....with the classic internal workings that made the 9255 famous, only better. Great SQ, no fancy ****. Just put in the cd and listen. that's my kind of deck.
