I remember using a pair of 10-W1's (the old ones from the 90's) sealed with 1000 watts. They were rated at 125 each, and they sounded nice. Too bad it's so darned expensive to get the power requires for sealed enclosures. Was thinkin tonite on the way home, listening to Crime of the Century, that if only I had 5Kw, and a pair of good tens that could take it......
Think I'll try a pair of ID-Max, and see how long it takes to blacken the coils.

Hey Johny Vroom:
Have you ever had the chance to listen to a set of Altec 525 commponents? Be interested on your take on them, as you seem to have a perceptive ear.
IMO they were the nicest sounding speakers I have heard yet... maybe not the flattest, or brightest, but they seemed to "disappear".
One of the few speakers I've heard that were nice to listen to for an extended time, and all I ever wished was that they'd handle more, so I could keep turning it up. I tried using multiples, but it always sounded worse.
Still looking for a set that can do what they did. Too bad they had a fire at the factory.

I have the MB Quart QSD-216...they are very accurate in the highs but I find that I fatigue very easily....and thats with the tweets turned down all the way. They have great punchy mids though.

If I had to do it agian I would probably go with a nice set of Focals since they are more transparent and the tweets blend a bit better with the mids.

I have never heard those Altecs... I want to though... I loved the old Voice of the Theater stuff and am hoping to do a mock-up in the trunk of my car as a tribute to them.

I dont say too much about specific car audio brands, and I dont make too many recomendations. I am convinced EVERYONE can hear as well as the next guy/ gal when it comes to SQ. There are simply prefences (lean, accurate, staging, bass, rich... etc.).

I was listening to a guys car with the old MBQ tweeters in them (you know the big ones)... man did they achieve a detailed and pleasant HF, I truely enjoyed them.
