I agree with "the Boy", class D amps have change huge over the past 2-3 years. I would have to try a newer style to make an opinion.

I bought my MTX 225H.O used but in excellent working and visual condition for 50 bucks of ebay. And its 1ohm stable class a/b. As a matter of fact I will be using it to drive the same sub as the gentleman who started this thread, the IDMAX12D2.

For the record...the JL is stable from 1.5ohm up...it will still put out it's rated power into your sub with the coils in series, but IIRC Dave Mac tested the JL "/" series amps and reported they don't like going below that 1.5ohm threshold.

If you don't mind used stuff, and you can find one, the Orion SX2250 would be a great choice...a very clean and solid 1KW RMS into 4ohm mono...

If it's all about SQ, than please avoid 1 OHM loads.
I agree with M. Bisson in that a class A/B will be significantly better sounding(or more accurate) than a Class D.

A regulated power supply will be cause for better SQ over an unregulated design? Please tell why that is.

And the 800a2 and 1100a2 in the For Sale section are studs of an amp. If you can get a good deal on them they would be a very good choice also.
</font>
the regulated power supply is better for sq do to the fact that regardless of the current draw that the battery is under the amp is still going to produce the same amount of power at the out put stage. this is obvously important with very dinamic music that contains a lot of lows. If u can't see the logic in that then i guess i just can't help u.

i just remembered a large amp that was not class d as well. there was soundstreams class a 10.0. it was neet in the sence that it was desinged to produce huge power at like a half ohm (cheeter amps or what ever u like to call them). it sounded great to even by todays standards.

</font>
I don't know about you but I don't know too many SQ guys who have major voltage drop issues nor do they listen to their car stereo with a half dead battery. The SQ guys I do know would enjoy the extra power of an unregulated design at higher battery voltage over an unregulated design. Why? Because more power is headroom which is key for dynamic music.
