Which sq amp to go with?

by the way those arc amps look great and have tons of real usable power.. excellent choise.. but your car probably sounds great due to proper speaker placement ,enclosures and sound proofing in the car..
i hate sounding like a bastard with this MY AMP SOUNDS BETTER THAN YOUR AMP fight but i know what is smoke and mirrors and what isent.... amps do sound different... yes but can you hear that sonic feature in a car??? no thats where i get so fustrated with media and these show boats with $10k amps who tell the world eveyone sucks because they cant have a thesis.... sorry but windows down, 60miles per hr, listneing to a lousy recorded led zepplin 4 8-track.... no matter what amp you bought it aint gonna sound that great... but windows down, warm summer breeze zepplin playin loud, pretty girls walking by, who cares anyway....... cheers..

I hear a difference, so my ears don't lie. Arc's are a perfect example. I'm not gonna get into the details but you're gonna sit there and say a Boss CX600 which is 100x4 sounds exactly the same as an Arc Audio SE 4200 with is 110x4?
CX600 - Boss Chaos eXXtreme 800W 4 Channel Amplifier
MAX POWER, 2 OHM: 200w x 4
RMS POWER, 4 OHM: 100w x 4
MAX BRIDGED POWER, 4 OHM: 500w x 2
SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO: 102 dB
THD: 0.01%
DIMENSIONS: 11-7/8"W X 2-5/8"H X 13-3/8"L
Trimode operation
Bridgeable
Remote subwoofer level control
Line and speaker level inputs

[QUOTE=lpchouinard;591875]wow so you're saying that if both amp are set at the same power (before clipping) and that they can reproduce the same bandwidth they will sound the same... WOW unbelievable!

you find this hard to believe? im not saying that i agree or disagree, but am curious as to how you formed this opinion

From experience, I had an MTX amp that was giving a 75w/ch rms sending signal to a pair of CDT es-62i and the vocal where just awful (distortion) and I swapped for an OS Sony amp 2x55w and that distortion was gone.
Also, when they compare amp on a scope with tones it has nothing to do with the full spectrum of music so that part also bother me a bit.
I understand the point that you don't need to speed 10k for an amp to have good sound, but they are cheap amp(and not so cheap) on the market that really sucks and this is why i find unbelievable that someone will say that all amp sound the same.
Yes there's some ppl that will listen to their car off, windows up... with 3 kids there's no more room in the house for home audio, so the room is now my caravan, yes i often drive to a quiet place and turn everything off and enjoy music.

Well the reason many will say that is because nobody has been able to prove they can hear a difference...and until then that's all we can say. As far as ABX goes, most good ABX tests like RC's allowed you to listen for as long as you wanted with any speaker you wanted and you controlled the switching. Just a note on RC's test; all he was trying to illustrate was that there are too many audio voodoo claims out there and that even the most expensive, "state of the art", esoteric amp's sound was easily and extremely cheaply (a simple resister in many cases) reproduced. All the man wanted to show was that these claims of fantastic technology were mostly bogus in terms of making one amp sound better than another.

It appears a few people are struggling with the details of the test.
The payoff is $10k if you do the whole thing, but there are other levels to win at (although the difference in sound is SO obvious one might as well take it all right!)
The amps are NOT EQ'd to sound the same (what would be the point of the test????) but rather an eq may be used to correct an amp with an internal EQ that does not flatten out completely.
Listening time is whatever you want. Music is whatever you want.
One sec... here, there's the rules for all to see. Remember, not one winner. EVER. Golden Ear Challenge
The sticker is that the amps are not allowed to clip or distort. So, yes, if you keep that BOSS clean (maybe up to 5watts RMS, maybe..) it will sound just like the Arc at the same power.
In a real world install though, it all goes out the window, because people load their amps down too much, clip them too much, starve them for power too much, etc. Just the way it is..
So there are plenty of great reasons to throw the BOSS in the dumpster and get something decent but supporting the idea that one amp sounds better than another all the time regardless of conditions is foolish.
And that's the bottom line cuz Lord Dukk said so.. (lol, 10yr flashback there)

I think you need to do some reading before you make any more silly comments like that. I'll give you a hint: they didn't have those round discs around when Led Zeppelin was making music is the late 60's and 70's., Hint #2: You can't make something out of nothing. Good luck with that one, it's not that difficult.

ya what paul said!!!! lol anyway.. i also have prisms armaggedon and meatloafs bat out of hell 8 tracks. kickn around here somewhere.... watch out john your neon is going down!!! once you hear my quadraphonic sound from my 8 track..... booyaa!!! lol

I got some Floyd, Supertramp and Boston on 8 track if you want them.
