SQ component speakers help!

I'm in search of some 5.25 component speakers for my car. I've got the bass, and the visual now I'd like the quality. My car has stock components in the front doors, the tweets are about 10 inches above the speakers themselves mounted in the front doors.

I've looked around, JBL seems okay, alpine everyone always claims is the best, and I went and had a look at the crazy priced Polk component sets, $350 =(

actually around here, here being this board, those brands are considered middle of the road except for their ultra high end stuff. Those cost upwards of 1500.00 a set for the JBL 660 gti to around 3500.00 for the Alpine F#1 components. If you're looking for good sound in the 300-700.00 range, there are literally dozens of capable component sets. In clude the brands you mentioned, and add; Diamond audio, Infinity, Rockford Fosgate, Focal, Morel, AVI, MTX, Pioneer, Kenwood, CDT, DLS, Macrom, MB Quart, to name a few. All make entry level to high end sets, so your best bet is to go audition as many as you can and get an idea of what type of sound you like...warm, smooth highs with mellow mids, bright highs with sharp, high impact mids, or heavy midbass with neutral high frequencies. Honestly, it's one of those things you have to figure out for yourself, as nobody can tell you what you're going to like. Hell, most of us into car audio, or any audio for that matter, aren't too sure what we like after all these years. That's why we're always screwing around with our systems.

this is the best website i've come across so far in my interweb-shopping-for-speakers marathon, and iv'e specked out what i think should be an awesome 3 way setup for under $500. Comprised of Seas and Peerless stuff, which sounds good to me! (but i could be very wrong)

Yeah, you're right. I'm a huge fan of Dr Dre, and of course Still D.R.E is a great song, and the highs and mids are crazy on the track. As I said I'd like something with quality sound, and well yeah like you said bright highs with sharp mids would be great. I will be amping the speakers as well so I'll be spending a bit.

Im actually leaning toward the kenwood x1300p rather than anything else, about the same price as the jbl's I was thinking of.

I would go active, and select the woofer based on frequency response needed and T/S parameters along with type of install....

Ah, crazy things have happened since I posted that. My car's transmission went, costed around $1300 and its still in the shop. My friend offered me his 3/4 done out 240sx for a crazy good price, engine swap, turbo, rims/kit etc. I may sell my car and go with that. The more I like the car itself, the more opportunities I see with the car audio part of it. =) im thinkin taking out back seats
