Sub box speaker clearance

Does a sub need any clearance from the back wall of it's box? If I build one into the floor of the hatch area of my Corrado will lack of depth effect SQ? (Assuming I will be iusing the suggested box volume)

I would have to say no, but I know nothing of SQ so who knows?!??!
There has to be some depth, you can't put the back of the box right against the motor of the sub. I always like to keep a couple of inches AT LEAST just to let the pole vent breath properly and to me, it just makes sense. More than a few inches would be optimal, but if that is all you can spare, so be it.

^ if there is no pole vent it probably dosen't matter although the magnet might not release heat as well if its right against the box... (may or may not really matter)
with a vent I suppose you could get noise that might cause some kind of distortion... also your voice coil probably wouldn't cool as effectivly...
