sub positioning in the trunk

i like the sound SQ better with the box facing towards the back of the car about 2 feet from the back

Your problem is one many have faced, what worked on our first system doesnt work so well in the second system. You are experienced but not advanced (advanced SQ or SPL guys are generally much more confused because they are never sure what the REAL problem is (hehehehe)).

You are a guy who wants your car to sound good (from what you wrote that was obvious) it was also obvious you are not obsessed with the gizmo's... good for you. No slam intended, I consistently use the simplest system I can get away with.

Having the sound better with the trunk opened gets you more looks at the local Timmie's. Or you can have it better when you're in the car, but you can't have both.
Turn the box for inside listening, and eliminate the out-of phase reflection from the trunk surface.

i don't care what it sounds like with the trunk open, i don't go to meets and try to show off



i ended up turning the sub around so it faces the back end...WOW what a difference

cleaned up some of the wiring and battery terminals, now everything sounds great and no more whinning through the speakers
