the reason I'm trying to narrow it down to the two setups above is simply because I'm on a fairly tight budget right now--my subs recently died, and looking for a quick-fix to get some bass back in the car.

both of the above setups I can get for $200 including the box's... but are they even worth that much? .. or would that single 12" Yuli is selling pound harder?

for your car i would probably lean more towards the ported. will give you more output, more output means more sound going thru you bimmer and thats a good thing.

my friend W1's are not better than W0's, they are actually worse. They are both rated at 125 rms but the W0's has jl's patent vrc or whatever its called technology and the W1's don't.i had the w1's.SQ is the same but W0's can handle more abuse </font>
The W0's are abismal. Who cares about abuse? That's a complete non-issue since power handling wasn't even brought up. Unless you're so irresponsible with your 125W speakers as to blow them, in which case there are other problems than the one at hand. The SQ isn't the same. The W0's were a step backwards in tonal accuracy when they came out. Yes, I've owned both.

For that price I'd sooner scrounge up a Shiva/Temptest and build an enclosure.

teach me.

where can I get one of these Shiva/Temptest's?.. what's the power rating on them? I do have a space 12" box available.. and a box for 2 10's available.. otherwise I'll have to build a box.. (which isn't a bad idea, except it's getting so cold hre in Toronto, I'd rather not!)

Your first bet would be to peruse the For Sale forum, see if anyone is letting any go. That's the cheapest option.

If you want new, talk to Jon at Genuine Canadian Audio.

Do your research, find out what drivers will best suit your needs. It's irrelevant that it's a cheap system, you'll thank yourself in the long run. I mentioned the Shiva and Tempest simply because they are excellent "bang for your buck" subs from a reputable company and are easily available.

thanks for the advice... I'll look into this.
Eventually I do want a custom install... but right the majority of my car-funds is going into body styling + performance improvements. However, a solid sub or pair of subs would be useful in the long run too.

Thanks,
NC
