Hey guys, I'm new here and have a few questions. I am thinking about upgrading my subs to some JL W6V2's. I am going to be fiberglassing the whole trunk area, and would like to use 3 10" ones. is there any reason why I should keep them in pairs?

and my next question is, could someone explain, or post a link to an article explaining canccelation?
thanks guys,

The Saint

^^ yes you *can* cause cancellation, but many many people have used multiple drivers without problem. More often than not you will have an increase in ouput rather than decrease.

To answer your question of why people use pairs of woofers (or singles) is mainly for impedance. If you have a 2 ohm stable amplifier and you hook up two 4 ohm woofers that's great, (2 ohm load) but if you add a third then you're down to 1.33 ohms.

thanks for the reply, I will be getting 2 JL Sladh series amps to power the 3 JL W6V2's and they say that amp is stble at that ohm load, so thats ok.

I thought there was some specific reason, as in 12's wok best in pairs, and 10's work best in 3's... or something liek that... thanks guys

You were thinking more along the classing of DB Drags..

For instance Street B Class..
One 15-inch woofer
OR a maximum of two 12-inch woofers
OR a maximum of three 10-inch woofers
OR a maximum of four 8-inch woofers

So are you going to run an amp to one voice coil of each woofer, then use another amp to run the other voice coil of each woofer? Be very careful matching output levels. </font>[/QUOTE]No I won't be using seperate amps for each VC, but rather a 1000/1 for 2 of the W6's, and a 500/1 for the 3rd... Thanks for the input

hey man, yeah you definately need at least a 500/1 for each sub, or if you want to save some $$$ you could get a single e1400 for each oil. that will do the same thing. i was going to get an e1800 for my 2 12w6v2's and i was told not to...just my $0.02
