Upgrading from Phoenix Gold QX2350 Amp
#1
I have a Phoenix Gold QX2350 amp running two 10" Infinity Reference 1020 subs in a sealed box. The amp used to be mounted on the back of the back seat in an '89 Mazda MX-6. This thumped nice enough for my taste (when I had the seat down and the amp exposed, it thumped even better). Problem was this amp would cut out in the summer heat about an hour after I turned it up. It did not cut out in the spring, fall, or winter. If I had the seat down and the amp exposed, it did not cut out. I once drove from Toronto to Saskatoon and back in sunny July with the amp exposed and the music cranked. There were no problems with the amp.
Now the amp is mounted on the box in the trunk of my '02 BMW 325i. It fills in the bass nicely but the thump is gone. When I had the amp cranked this exceptionally nice, warm summer, it would go about 30 minutes before cutting out. Soooo, methinks, it needs cooling.
I want my thump back. I want it to keep thumping even if I drive to Las Vegas and back again. I was thinking of the Phoenix Gold Xenon X600.1 amp. It has more power. With the power headroom, it should run cooler(?). It is a brand with which I'm familiar. Above all else, it has a fan and seemed to be designed to play in the summer heat.
But all is not happy in Pleasantville! There are so many negative postings about the amps that I'm a bit leery about buying one.
What say ye, ye Car Audio Experts? X600.1 or something else? Your suggestions would be most welcomed.

there are many things that you could try, but instantly you will find that any product will give you a nice thump like you want.
it is the quality that you had that you are looking for again. there is a 2 year warranty on PG amps that used to be 1 year. and so now you have a great warranty.....there is a cooling fan in there that allows it to cool as it is needed. it is a variable fan that will slow down and speed up according to the needs of the amp.
plus there is also a special edition model available here and there called the x600.1 onyx. it is a nice little amp.
plus the x600.1....well ......they put a little more love into it for guys like you that for some reason came out pretty powerful. check the side of the box of the one that you are buying. all PG amps have a rating outside with what that specific amp producesat 14.4 volts. and you will find that the 600.1 has rating of up to 900 watts. yes it is a 600 watt amp. but these came out very powerful. they over extended and ended up with very powerful small amps. all other amps(400.1 and 1200.1 came out with this but only the 600.1 has about 300 more watts than what it ws intended) so check the birth certificate on the side of each box and choose the one with the highest tested wattage at 14.4. happy hunting.
good luck and hope that this helps out.

a major part of the problem you are having isnt the products used but more the vehicle, the trunk of your bmw is very well sealed compared to its domestic counterparts. its going to be very hard if not impossible to get your 2 10" woofers to sound like your hatchback did. you are either going to a)need larger woofers that you have now and more power or b) more woofers like the ones you have right now and more power
i have done freeair/infinite baffle applications in bmw's with very good success. unfotunately youve bought a car that is well built, but at the sacrifice of your stereo. simply getting a new amp will do one thing and thats take $$$$$ out of your wallet
