Want to upgrade but need ideas

I've had my system in for over a year now and as much as I play with all my eq settings I can't get rid of the harshness of my trebles without losing a lot of definition. Right now I have a set of elemental designs edi 6000s v.1 flush mounted in my door. I wanna get new trebles and I just wanted suggestions of something to get that is relatively inexpensive (around $50) that should help me improve things if possible for that little money. If I get new tweeters should I also change the mounting location? thanks for any help you have to offer.

You may try buying one of the home sets from solen.ca, assuming you know the crossover cutoff point and slope for the tweeter so that the new tweeter can integrate well with it.

There was another member looking to replace the tweeters for his alpine set here,
http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...-tweeters.html
You can get more info and ideas in there.

Try using a soft silk dome vs. a aluminum or titanium type tweeter. If you want to just try soming inexpensive try a pair of Audiopipe tweeters or something of that nature so you dont blow a pile of money.

You say you've tried all the EQ adjusting but have you tried actually moving the tweeters themselves? If they're on-axis you might just love them off-axis.
Try changing angle's and possibly locations.

I haven't really tried moving them around a lot because I flush mounted them in the doors. What does off-axis mean? I'm definitely a beginner with this stuff except for actually installing it.

thought that was just known as reversing the phase???
What's the benefit of doing this and if it's too hard to explain does anyone have a link to a page or site with this kind of info?

The easiest way to answer that is to do it for yourself and find out.

When you swap phases you make a driver push when it used to pull... basically you have a driver working out of time with the other driver (this has an affect for woofers, mids, and tweeters) the result is cancellations and harmonic shifts. The result may be pleasant or not, it may be more accurate or not, it depends on the installation. The phase shift on the tweets will give a wide less distinct sound, where it can be hard to locate individual instruments in a jazz quartet (only 4 folks but they will seem to be everywhere).
Swapping mids will have a similar affect but with a different affect on tonal response and width of stage.
lower frequencies will tend to either cancel (quieter) or combine (louder) at certain frequencies.

Sometimes you will hear someone say "it sounds phasey" this is the affect, but you really have to do it to describe it. And it can be described better than I just did.
