2 amps question

Ok so soon i will be installing 2 amps in my trunk. i already have a run of 4 awg power cable going to the amp i have in my trunk now. i acquired a free stringer 4 awg amp kit some time ago and was going to sell it but then i thought i could save some money if i just used that kit to power my second amp.

should i go out and buy 0 awg cable and then split it at the end to both amps or will i be fine with having 2 runs of 4 awg cable?

A second run of power cable will work fine for your second amp.

Or, you can do one run of larger wire, fused distribution block etc.

The awg of wire you use does not depend on how many amplifiers you have. It depends on how many amperes you are drawing. First of all, I highly doubt you need 0 awg, that is very rare.

Chances are you will be fine with the 4 guage wire you already have, therefore saving you money and ripping your car apart again. Although not knowing how many amperes you will draw I am not sure of this.

For example I have 3 amps, drawing 800 watts total, with a 12' 2 awg power cable. I have no problems what so ever and could easily get by with a 4 awg (but i wanted room for upgrades).

The easiest way to determine all of this safely is with the chart on the bottom of this page http://www.rbeelectronics.com/wtable.htm

Conviniently it has watts or amps in the chart to tell you.

Good luck

the two amps will be drawing about 900-800 watts total. i was thinking more towards the two cable or the 1 larger cable because i am afraid of voltage drops. does that make sense or am i missing the point?

Well it doesn't hurt to go over kill with the cable - just hurts the wallet with copper going up like it is. As for voltage drops you shouldnt need to worry about bigger cable for that, they can surge and drop as much as they want, wont make much of a difference, its more the amperes you need to worry about for wiring.

Also have you looked into if your car will be able to support this much power output?
