Hi, new to the forum. I bought a 4 chan polk audio amp to install with my sony mono amp which is currently working fine with no problems. with the install I bought two 4 to 8 gauge distribution blocks, remote wire and rca cables which i connected to the back of my pioneer radio. my mono amp continue to work fine but no power to the polk audio, I check the fuses, ok. I even replaced the polk amp with a friends 4 chan that's working still no power. is there a problem with my power or ground? should I upgrade to 0 gauge? please help

 

Check power to ground for 12 volts and remote to ground for 12 volts with multimeter.

 

As Sonic stated and also check and make sure your ground is on a good grounding surface ( non painted ) and is as short as possible.

 

Ok thanks, my mono amp was professionally installed, the ground is good, power and remote is good. Here's the thing I took off the distribution blocks and connected the 4 chan directly to the initial install and still nothing. Then i took off the 4chan and connected the mono and it powered up with no problem. Does 4 chan amps need special wires?

 

No they don't. I would say that your Polk amp is pooched but you said you tried a friends amp (which I assume does work) and it doesn't work either.

As mentioned, if the amp has power, ground, and remote then it should at least light up. Input on RCAs and speakers on outputs should result in sound. Otherwise, take it to a shop.

 

Ok I have a multimeter, how exactly do I check it to make sure it's not defective

 

turn the multi meter to DC, and tough the red lead to your power wire, and the black lead to your grouding location. it should read around 12v with your car on accessory, and 13-15v with the engine on.

If that checks out ok, do the same with the remote wire touched by the red lead. if thats ok, then try unplugging your RCAs and see if it powers up. You might have a short in your RCAs causing it to not turn on.

 

returned it back for a swap and it work fine sounds great
next question is what amp should I get to power my subs? now im running a cheap sony xplod and have to upgrade. my speaker are 2 15'' alpine type R, they are 2ohm speakers currently wired at 4ohms. I would love some advice and I wouldn't have a problem wiring them series or parallel

 

price range? brand preference?

ideally you want a 1 ohm stable amp.

 

not too sure about some of the brands out but my price range is up to $400
