what make and model are we talking about?
I would think that all 12V constant should go to the battery, unless specifically stated Ignition.

Yeah the diode is used to keep current flowing in one direction only. Be sure though that the diode is rated to flow the current you require in order to operate the alarm if it is sounding. You might need multiple.

make sure to put the brain in the trunk for maximum effectivness. maybe mount the backup siren inside a fender so they can't jack you while your at it.
