what kind of hu do you have? some have the option of shutting off the rca's you can chech to see if your rca's are working or not with a dmm .put the DMM on the AC Voltage setting put the positive from the dmm on the center pole of the RCA and the negative on the outer pole.

well seeings as you have no sound comming out of your subs but the amp turns on suggests to me there is one of 3 problems 1. broken amp 2.wrong wiring to your subs or 3 a problem with you headunit or rca cables.

a dmm is a digital mulitmeter.if you have one set it to mesure ac volts, take the rca's off your amp and connect the dmm to one of the rca's by putting the red wire from the dmm to the center pin on the rca and then putting the black wire from the dmm to the outter part of the rca cable.

turn the volume on you hu up a bit and if you get voltage on the dmm you know that your rca cables are working and that your hu is working properly.

if its a 2004 amp it should be under warrenty assuming you bought it retail.

and what kind of headunit are you using?

on your alpine hu there is a feature that turns off your rca cables. check in your manual it will tell you how to turn them on and off.

in the manual it only says how to turn the subs "on" and "off." but written in the book, it says "initial mode is Subwoofer ON." So it seems like this shouldnt be the problem, unless there is something i am missing in the manual. any ideas? also, where can multimeters be purchased? and any idea how to find out about the amp??????

those last 2 questions are pretty important i think, so help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks alot!!

multi meters can be purchased at any kind of hardware store.but they are probly somewhere in the +100$ range so you might just want to try and find a friend who has one and borrow it for the day.

maby you should just take you car to a local installer and have him take a look at it.they will probly look at it for free or really cheap.
