I found the 300amp fuse interesting considering your 98 Malibu probably has GM's standard 110amp alternator and I'm not quite sure what the fuse is attempting to protect? The one situation I can think of that the fuse may prove effective is if the charge lead falls off the alternator and goes to ground.

so dukk, what size fuse do you recommend? does it matter where i place the fuse? or should i fuse both ends?
Im not insulting anyone...but something to think about
when asking for advice on whatever thing... make sure to give proper information pertaining to your questions... as now it has been discomnnected for 2 days(the battery) but at the begining part of the post was only a full day
just my 2c worth...no need to reply to my nonsence
in the Malibu it would go to a fuse box via a short 4 awg cable but also have a junction point covered by a plastic red cap on the side of the fuse/relay box where it splits off to the starter and/or alternator(never traced that wire)

its was actually like a day and a half to be specific, be to be exact it sat overnight disconnected, enough time to reset the computer i guess.
the line from the alt looks to be 8ga. i can`t see exactly but its looks like 8 into the main fuse box as well, but i can`t rememeber off hand but i`ll take a look tomorrow.

basically you want to duplicate what is already there using thicker wire ... that is the only way to avoid any problems with the fatory electrical system... if there was no fuse...dont put one in...if there is a fuse put one in... ect...
