no your missing the point.. the output transisters take the power from the voltage rails and, being a linerar device send that input to output to the drivers.. now the higher the voltage coming out of the rails, the closer the outputs are to there max efficency, thats the premise behind class d amps as the outputs are constantly maxed.. now upon saturation of the voltage rails the outputs are maxed thus at full efficiency giving more energy on the output side of the fundemental frequency. and the voltage rail will be literally connected to the speaker, now this is called saturation and it happens for whatever duration of the wave exceeds the rail of the amp. on a lighter note i dont think this thread was started to discuss amp design so i will no longer be discussing amp design or how they clip in this thread... i think we have already answered his question earlier.. but nice getting to see that you are versed on amp technology.. good job.. ps i work as a head installer for f.s.

Fair point, agreed. I always like to hear from top notch installers out of big box stores. Gotta love the sleepers lol Maybe we should start a new thread and get some shared knowledge

So here's a different take, low powered unit CAN blow your speaker because you are introducing clipping and distortion at a very early stage which can be just as damaging as overpowering your speakers

Just my two cents ....

After being able to play with an O-scope a few weeks ago (thanks Ken), I've found that clipping easily occurs from different processing features.

eg. Pioneers BBE setup. When it was turned off, I could turn my deck full tilt (39/40) before the deck showed a slight clip. Click it on, with no gain, and now the sub level started to clip at volume 35, +1 clipped @ 31, +2 clipped @ 24...

So needless to say, it's not worth the other problems associated... I now keep it off.

That's not different, it's exactly what we have been talking about, have you read any of the thread?

EQ, bass, treble, bbe is essentially a volume for specific frequencies.

Whatever frequency you boost will end up clipping earlier as you raise the volume.

Using bbe is fine, it helps make the sound fuller at low volumes since the ears don't hear the same at different volumes. It's when you turn it up that the benefit disappears.

10 watts clipped will not blow a speaker designed to disapate 50 watts... sorry

it will sound kind of blown ...but that is what clipping sounds like (poop on toast)

I've turned up the volume on my 5030 with the morels and haven't heard anything but clear music so far.

Honestly, I have never heard a pair of components amped before so I have no idea HOW MUCH better they will sound our loud they will go...

Car audio is not the thing here...
